I just want to bring up an unsung hero in game creation: sound design.
Damn, MHX sounds good. Even looking away from the screen and just listening to the effects is very satisfying. The way the weapons swish and clang, the crumbling of earth, shattering of ice, roaring of monsters, etc.
Yeah, the sound design effort is sometimes easy to overlook when listening via the 3DS's sound processor (processor? matrix? tiny parrot trapped inside your gameboy?)
So I'm thinking of maining some combination of the bow, hunting horn, and maybe the great sword whenever Cross comes out here. The tweaks seem like they could really change those weapons' playstyles. What weapon / changes are y'all in it for?
I use every weapon regardless, I have no opinion or do not know how to state it. XD
By the way, the new back dive move you do with the bow after back stepping three times, any idea how far it will go?

I believe that it turns the seconds consecutive back step into a backflip that, if you hold down B, charges an arrow completely for you. I would assume that it also has some sort of increased invincibility frames, like the superman dive. We'll have to wait until the 7th at 6pm-ish PST to see.
I wondered what the aerial version of the insect Glaive looked like, I was not disappointed.
BTW, the bow's back dive revealed!
I thought it was going to be the backward jump that result in someone landing on their back.

-Lagiacrus is all on land, The Deserted Island has had the water removed, which isn't great.
-The technical hunting style changes the evade into a counter-type evade, blocking at the last minute gives a corresponding counter or buff for those weapons.
-The remastered areas have LEDGES!
-LEDGE HYPE.
-The new lighting flying wyvern charges his wings, horn, and tail like Zinogre's back.
-Shogun apparently inflicts the bleeding status now.
By "water removed", do you mean there's now an invisible wall to prevent you from diving in, or that it's actually gone? Because an entire ocean vanishing would be quite bad.
And I didn't think ledges were a big deal... well, other then "DEATH FROM ABOVE" mount attempts.
Maybe Lagiacrus hated water combat as much as some hunters did =P.
In Portable 3rd (where there wasn't any underwater), I think the whole place is just shallow water, or something. Guessing it'll be the same here.
Kinda hoping the Flooded Forest will return now...loved that place but the underwater there is just horrid.

The flooded forest without underwater would be a joke: that stage is a giant river!
Areas 10, 11, and 12 of the Deserted Island were some of the coolest areas in the game and now 10 is drastically altered, and 11 & 12 are presumably totally removed. Nothing beats the feeling of swimming out into the ocean for the first time and resurfacing in an underwater cave.
Lagiacrus was my favourite water monster to hunt on land so I'm glad to see him return. Also Deserted Island was my favourite map of Tri/3U, hopefully the default boss music for that map will return as well since it always gets me into the hunting mood.
I'm probably just being a bit too worried since monsters like the Great Jaggi, Lagombi and Rathalos had their themes removed for generic battle musics in 4. But then again, those are monsters and not maps who had their songs changed.
