i think the only megaman i ever played was some gameboy game and i can barely remember it because i was very young and it felt frustrating.

now the first 6 mega man games from the NES are on sale in the 3ds eshop and i want to know what is the best title to get introduced into the series. i really liked gunman clive on 3DS and many people said it would be much like mega man.
should i just try the first mega man or is there a better one for beginners?

Mega Man 2 is supposed to be one of the best entry titles. I found the first one to be rather unforgiving, especially when you reach the yellow devil boss...
The Mega Man X titles are also really good, but they are definitely a different generation of Mega Man titles.

Hope this helps!

I would try to start with the original and try to look up a few tips on which weapons you need to defeat the Robot Masters. I always found Megaman 2 to be much easier than the others but that might be because I actually owned the original on my NES and only played the others occasionally.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

i forgot to ask how big the games are. how long does it take to beat them for a newbie?

If you want to get into the classic series, 2 and 4 are great entry points. Especially 2s normal mode (hard is the japanese default difficulty) is great for starters. 4 on the other hand is just generally well made and nicely ballanced.

For the X Series, any game is a good starting point really. While the classic series regularly introduced new features that would turn the whole gameplay upside down (Items, Slide, Charge etc), the X series mostly evolved in nuances.

If you don't mind challenging yourself a bit, I think the best way is to play through them in order. If you'd rather just try a single game, I'd recommend Mega Man 5.

Start with Mega Man 2 but prepare yourself for a challenge. Mega Man is hard, NES hard.

On the Wii U eShop, they are all the American versions.
Also, go for Megaman 3, that's the best of them all, you can even enjoy some of Megaman 2 in there, without spoiling anything.

ANd you could pretty much get all of them, as they are on sale right now. I say you can't miss with classic Megaman.

Dunno how I feel.

I'm actually veeeeeery late into the series my first Megaman game was the first Gameboy game...and I got it in 2011. I've only gotten 4, and I've only beaten half of them. I really need to check this series out more, because I actually like it.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Play MegaMan Legends one and two and then realize why so many people threw their 3DS away when part 3 got canceled

All 3DSeShop games are 60Hz.
If you're talking about the Wii U version, go to another thread X(
(I'm kidding. The Wii U versions are indeed 60Hz)

I'm just buying them in order, having bought 1-4 before realising I was probably best off just picking the best. I think 4,5 and 6 is a good trilogy to start with since they're easier than the others, but 2 and 3 are the bext in the series. It depends on your budget, really. I'm buying them all.

Go for NES 2 and 3 and Game Boy IV and V. Those are the best games in the classic series on the 3DS.

okay i got mega man 2 and played it for an hour. kinda frustrating. the difficulty doesnt come in hard gameplay but in unfair gameplay. like in one stage you fall and have to evade some kind of lasers (?). you have to do it absoloutly perfectly and you have to memorize where you have to go. really hated that part!!
i managed to beat wood man, metal man and flash man. all without any special weapons. of course it took me quite some tries to beat them.

i dont think i will try any other mega man game. i just hate the unfair difficulty. it seems like the enemy is knowing where you will jump and you can not evade their attacks.
i have to give the game probs though for being so complex. and the controls most of the time. but i wish mega man could jump higher and be faster.

Well, to play mega man games, you first must watch the mega man animated TV show.

Despite growing up and seeing the Mega Man series flourish and blossom, I've only played Mega Man, MM2, MM3, MM9, and Mega Man X.

Back when I had a computer, I played (using awful keyboard controls) that Capcom-backed fan-made game, Mega Man x Street Fighter .... oy.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get some more MM downloaded onto my Wii U VC soon. And I still want to get MM10 from WiiWare (or might just get it from PSN).

Quick Man's stage is a bit of an anomoly. There aren't many stage hazards as hard as the laser pit in the rest of the series. (saying that, Heat Man's stage has a really annoying section with disappearing platforms. Also not repeated in later games)

Aw don't quit. Mega Man is classic franchise with a lot of wonderful things to offer to fans of platform games. Honestly Mega Man 2 (and 1 actually) are a bit challenging. But things get refined after that. Honestly Mega Man III is my favorite Mega Man of all time. Its just a perfect game.

Protip: Use Metal Man's metal blades liberally. They can shoot in any direction and make most of the enemies a lot easier to deal with.

Practice makes perfect.

Literally.

Keep playing, and that "unfair difficulty" will be a thing of the past. Eventually you'll get used to how everything works and will enjoy playing the games. If you're feeling let down by Mega Man 2, you could try 4, as it's difficulty is more balanced. There aren't nearly as many major points of difficulty in 4 and everything feels about equal. 5 also wouldn't be a bad choice.

Beep.
That is all.
