Do you honestly think that Nintendo is going to announce the new system right away? They got the Wii U to worry about and the only thing making profit for them is the 3DS and that's that. So if they are to end the 3DS cycle, they would very likely end the Wii U cycle as well and make the next gen system.

Well the Wii U is now making a profit but why would end the Wii U & 3DS at the same time? Traditionally they don't launch or discontinue both the home and portable console at the same time.
Well, the 3DS came out one year before the Wii U, so one year before they announce the Wii U replacement. The Wii U is only two years old, so it has another three or more years. That's a minimum of 2016, even later if the consoles do well.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
Dude (I'm assuming you're a dude), why do you want the 3DS to be over so bad?
Just enjoy the games as they come, and Nintendo will launch the new whatever whenever they feel like it's necessary.
New 3DS is technically an upgrade so I'd say there's still a ways to go before an all new handheld. I'm hoping the next one is 3D as well at the very least. Does anyone know how long the Gameboy Color was out before the Gameboy Advance came around? That might give a good estimate considering it was the upgrade to the original Gameboy. Personally, I'd like to see the New 3DS last a good 4 years with games that really show it's more powerful than the 3DS.
I personally think the New 3ds is a way to extend the life of system so it DOES line up with the next home console. The idea of console and handheld working in tandem so you can play certain console games on the handheld, or use the handheld as an extra controller, or use the console to store handheld games, or have games that have console sections and then separate handheld sections is very appealing and exciting.
This way Nintendo could produce 20 games a year that both markets could buy, and the idea of Pokémon on TVs and big Zelda games on Handhelds (amongst other ideas). Saying that, I think it's 3-5 years away.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

3 years, GBC came out October 1998, and the GBA came out in March 2001, then the DS came in November 2004, but the GBA still had games coming out for it until 2006 in Japan, and 2008 in the US.

How do you explain the DS and Wii? both ended as soon as the 3DS and Wii U showed up. Also GBA and Gamecube? Sure its a year difference but its so minor that it just doesn't matter.
