In The Lost Valley, my valley is full of ponds, streams, lakes, waterfalls and swamps, so it is perfectly possible to make your valley a water paradise if you wish it. I can show you pics if you want to see just what you can do with customizing. I am planning on doing the same to Skytree Village.

@Meowpheel Yay!! Can't wait to see what you do with it. I already have plans for that giant lake in the south I need to unlock more land first though, before I can do anything.

P.S. For some reason Miiverse isn't showing all the pics I've taken of my valley. I guess they 'expire' after a while. I'll have to retake them.

@Ryu_Niiyama In your experience (and anyone else who would like to share theirs), what are the characteristics in BokuMono that make it better (or worse) than Lost Valley/Skytree Village?

Well, recent HM games have alpacas, and they're the cutest animals ever (in HM I mean). Natsume has no alpacas, although they did include those donkeys which HM doesn't have. They look pretty cute too.

I like both games for different reasons. I like Harvest Moon better because of the terraforming and story. I like Story of Seasons for the art style. Both games bring something different to the genre and I just do not get why people have to complain about Skytree Village and Lost Valley. They can not both be carbon copies of the old games. People really need to get over it and see there is room for both series. You do not have to like both series but respect those people who like stuff that you do not.

@ollietaro Hey I'll start with a small list to make it easier. And it is tongue in cheek as heck because I'm sleepy. Again I want the series to succeed because I want more games like Bokumono to make it. I have not played the new HM but I am looking at let's plays so my list is based on the Lost Valley right now.

HM Pros (Lost Valley):
Terraforming
Harvest sprites are back!

HM Cons (lost Valley):
Town??????? Why do I have to hunt down these people to finish your quest?! Why don't they live here?
Story limited seasons.
Easier overall play through.
Terraforming (It is cool at first, but it can be annoying when trying to access things)
Single crops and no mass irrigation. (If SoS hadn't fixed that it would have been ok but now? yeah bye Felicia.)
Harvest Sprites suck as workers.
I am not a dollhouse person but seriously you could have more customization.
No town and a poor story combined with mediocre farming is not a good combo.
Artstyle. Not feeling it. (I say the same for skytree village for what I've seen so far.)

SoS (Pros):
Feel. Feels more like a standard progression of the Bokumono gameplay style.
Rival/Renting system. Really forced me to step up my gameplay instead of just waffling around.
More crop and animal diversity.
Difficulty modes.
Store progression.
Crafting. (I will MAKE EVERYTHING!...No? Too much?)
Festivals and competitions!
People and dialogue. I can find you and your little lives mean something to me! That will keep me playing instead of being a hermit.
Artstyle. Looks like bokumono which is an art direction I like and am used to.

SoS (Cons)
Mining...seriously a crack that is limited? I'll be playing old bokumono games or stardew instead, thanks.
Store progression. (I like and hate it)
Animal friendship system and grading (What else do you want from meeeeee you needy jerks?!)
Festivals and competitions!
It is easy to get overwhelmed. I have four greenhouses my regular fields two rental fields plus two barns plus mining. I'm still not married for that reason (and Iris is a tough cookie).
Rice paddy/mushroom logs...why are the only ones a rental?

So the only two things you find positive about TLV are terraforming and the sprites? (Which at the same time you also dislike?)

No wonder you didn't like it.

i rarely ever use the harvest sprites....i mainly do everything myself....terraforming does take a long time which is one of the things I hate about it. But the tools in Skytree Village are so much easier to use. You can do a single plot of land with the first tools you get but later you unlock more advanced forms of the tools which makes it easier to farm 9x9 plots of land. I am on the last Skytree and then I will be able to play with the land to my hearts content. I cant wait to finish this up and be able to just have fun with the terraforming.

It is a bit interesting how in TLV you could terraform basically all you want within a few weeks, only stone and hardwood trees limited you early on. What became unlocked with the story was the seasons.

In this one, the seasons are normal, but you need to unlock the land little by little. So your terraforming projects need to wait until after you're done with the story.

Also the land here is a bit of a mess compared to TLV, so you'll definitely want to terraform a bit.

Watching let's plays of this game is a bit... Depressing. Like, 3/4 of the people playing have no idea of how to play or what to do.

Well...after much consideration, I decided to preorder Pokémon. Man, juggling between the two games is going to be tough, especially when I am working on one of my pet projects.

I am currently curious about this game however PokeMoon is arriving in the mail so I know Skytree would likely sit on the shelf for a time. It's just that it will be 20% off until Nov. 22 b/c I am an Amazon.ca PRIME member and boxed games are 20% off up until two weeks after their release date. I was wondering whether or not to get it now or wait longer when it goes on sale. What do you think I should do?

ollietaro

Eel

I don't see it going on sale until it's at the very least six or so months old.

If you can wait, then excellent. Chances are you'll find the game with patches and dlc waiting for you.

It's not like it's unplayable buggy, but there're some few minor bugs and annoyances that may be fixed later.

@Meowpheel LMAO you will notice that I felt the way about many parts of SoS/Bokumono as well. Just because I like a feature doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws that drag gameplay. Also a con doesn't mean I'm ready to burn anything down; it just means that if you ask me which one will I play right now the answer will be bokumono. Like I said I want HM to do well, but it is going through growing pains so yeah, it currently isn't as fun. I expect it will eventually either equal or surpass bokumono because HM will be forced to change more quickly to allay the resistance of the purely stubborn bokumono players that are aware of the split and name change. Exciting times ahead.

@ollietaro non-game breaking stuff, like sometimes NPCs move, but their "interaction box" doesn't. So now you have an empty space where you can't move to, but if you press A, you'll interact with the correspondent character. It happened in TLV too.

Something that is not a gltich, but some people have found annoying is that storms and fog become rather common after you beat the story, some times multiple of them in succession. Which can kill your entire field of crops.

Some bugs I found is with the animals. Sometimes the animals will get glitchy with their legs move like crazy in one spot in the barn or my character's head will disappear when milking the cow.

Does it still have the extensive selection of crops/crop mutations as TLV?
