Lovely art and music. But DAMN this game is hard! I didn't mind the bee level, even though I've still yet to beat it fully, but the Pokemon level just felt unfair. Stuff just pops out of nowhere at you.
Doesn't help that I'm pretty bad at rhythm games anyway

The Pokemon levels are sort of like challenge levels. I read that they wanted to separate Pokemon music from the game itself and I think this is how. Basically, the Pokemon tunes will most likely all be harder optional levels for players that want a challenge.

Also, the hidden enemies aren't a problem if you attack based on the music and not what you see.

What makes me mad is that if you get hit once in that final onslaught by the bee, even if you have enough health to take a hit or three, it makes you restart the whole thing over again. That's just stupid. A rhythm game that sends you back to the beginning of the level for one little mistake!

I guess you haven't played Bit Trip Runner.

Nope. And based off that comment, I probably never will. LOL

I hate saying it, but I'm probably going to pass on this one.

But was the game AT LEAST fun? Yes, even though Bit Trip was hard but was super fun in my opinion. I like a good challenge, and no matter how hard a game is It will keep a special place in my heart.

OK... I finally beat the bee. And then it told me the demo was over.

I raged.

I did get significantly better at the Pokemon level, though. It helped to close my eyes and just listen to the music.

It was pretty fun aside from the bee level. Still, there's too much good stuff coming out soon. I'll get this when there's a lull in the release schedule.

There's other characters in this as well. And more Pokemon music. I'll get it eventually.

Lost in utter despair last night, I decided, against my better judgement, to give this demo another chance. I actually had a lot of fun with it this time around, for whatever reason. I think the cutesy designs and dumb dialogue (also unbearably slow and un skippable D: ) is what turned me off the first time. It does seem pretty simplistic though, and the boss fights aren't very fun imo, but the game is still pretty fun overall. Getting Runner 2 before this, though.

Runner 2 recognized such an annoyance and rectified it by adding checkpoints throughout stages. I'd say it's safe to say being totally reset sucks

Demo was just released on the EU shop, so just took this for a spin. Very charming characters and world, and you can sense a lot of Pokemon influences in the soundtrack. Gameplay was very reminiscent of Rhythm Tengoku and the bee boss battle reminded me of Space Channel 5 with repeating the commands. Simplistic format, but yes, I noticed the difficulty was upped on the Pokemon themed level, and I can imagine this getting progressively harder. On the surface, this does look incredibly and lovingly crafted and I feel this will make a welcome addition to the eShop, though I'm not sure I could justify spending the £12.99 price tag, would wait for a discount on this one.

I'm in love with this game already.
The demo's so short though.
Only two stages and a boss fight, and now that I've perfected it all there's nothing left to do but wait a week for the actual game.

There's a chance that this could end up being my new favourite eShop game after it launches.

I enjoyed this game, but not enough to pay 19.50 :/

I don't know if I'd get that much replay value out of it either. Stages are fun, but a tiny bit bland. The boss battle was cool, though. Maybe I'll wait for a discount or something

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

i finally got around to trying the demo last night, and i liked it. i'm still not entirely sold on the 'kiddy' theme, i kinda wish they'd taken more from Bit.Trip Runner and not been so obvious about everything, but man did that queen bee fight throw me off. thankfully, Rhythm Thief had some minigames that were similar (showing yoiu the beat, then changing perspective), so it was just like riding a bike.

i'm still not entirely sold on it at its current price-point, though. it really depends on how long the actual game winds up being. i may wait for a sale — especially since i'll have LM2 to play by the time HK hits, and i'm still playing through my current FE:A file anyway. but i will be picking this up eventually :3

I was all about this game because it reminded me of Bit.Trip Runner.........and then I got to the first boss and realized this game wasn't for me.

I enjoyed the demo and will most likely download it but I'm not yet sure when. The price tag is a bit high and I don't know how much content it has. Demo was pretty easy before the boss fight. Died four times, always near the end of the stage, and then on fifth try I cleared the stage with full hearts. At first I thought it didn't take my button pressing correctly in the boss stage but I suppose you just need to be really accurate. I didn't have troubles with jumping or attacking but dodging was pretty hard at first.

It's its, not it's.

KarrotMan

Call me childish but I'm all for HarmoKnight's colorful and cartoonish art style. Something about it just screams Pokemon meets Dr Seuss. The demo itself got me hooked and IMHO I found the game more appealing than BTR. The only barrier from me getting this immediately is the $15 price and since I can only get 2 games this month, I'll have to pass up any eshop offering for now. I'm happy to see Game Freak step outside their Pokemon comfort zone and release a new IP. Drill dozer was one of the best Platformers on the GBA and Pulse man looks ace.

I really dig the style as well, and the character design is great! But I can't play this game without being annoyed by the story. It just bugs me. Random things falling from the sky, collect ubernotes to vaporize them? Ugh.. I'll give the demo a few more tries before getting thins one

i basically suck at rhythm games and this one is no exception. i really wanted to like it, but i have to agree with @Sjoerd about the random things falling etc.

i have a couple of friends who are left handed, as i am, and they suck at rhythm games also. i wonder if it's the left to right game play or if we are just impaired in some way, lol.

I'm not the best at rhythm games either, haha. It seemed like every time I finally got a hold of the tougher rhythms I would end up missing one of the simpler ones. For a good like 20 tries, I always ended up with 2 hearts at the end and the last beat always threw me off.

I have to say though, it's even more fun than I expected and I like to see Game Freak to make other games every now and then.

The Pokemon beat level threw me off too but that's because things did seem to appear out of nowhere(especially behind that one freakin' wall XD).
