"This review provides a lot of info but I'm still not convinced. Why is everyone so excited for it? I'm not being rhetorical or anything, I actually want to know. It seems no different then, say, Rune Factory 4, which I already have. Other than visuals, I mean."
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Well I can't speak for most but I haven't played the Rune Factory games but the rpg elements along with the SIM aspects drew me in. I really like the difference in jobs for this game and the fact you can be everyone of them. Also depending on which career you take on the fighting is different. It might not be different from the other series but I'm fully enjoying this as it's almost seems like it has endless possibilities.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Well, I made my own thread, but it was suggested that I might have better luck asking on this one. Been playing this with my wife. She's playing as a Magician right now. Is there any way she can use her heals on me? If so, how? Would love to know. Thanks in advance.
Some have said that there is no subtlety to destruction. You know what? They're dead.
is there a website that has a decent guide? i cant find one. they're all incomplete. anybody know of one with info on everything?
If there r some things you get stuck on, I've found the Fantasy Life board at gamefaqs.com pretty comprehensive. You can do a search on topics and often come up with an answer.
I found this for you: Wizard, earth magic, hold x.
I don't know of this is news to anyone but did you know if you hold down the run button you automatically run without moving the control pad. I some times get annoyed constantly holding down the control pad.
Also after 15 hours I just now continued the main story! Just visited the General Store lol, so much to do.

So I guess the main difference is you can choose and have a job as opposed to just being a farmer like in RF4.

Far as I know you can't even be a farmer in this game. The closest would probably be a cook.
Let me add to what I said, a lot of jobs benefit each other. I started off as a carpenter and I can make my own furniture and some weapons but I need wood and can buy it or I can change jobs and learn how to cut down my own and save money. Of course there are other benefits to other jobs as well.
I can display my furniture in my home or sell it. I also need other materials like different metals and ores so I can be a miner as my next job. Each works hand in hand.
For those of you who downloaded the game, can you do a save-data backup? It has the option like all other download games, but it says that "There is no save data that can be backed up."
Not the most concerning issue, but I do like to back up my data every so often.

They're entirely different games. There's an entire fleet of differences. RF is Harvest Moon with some dungeon-crawling and other RPG stuff thrown it. Fantasy Life is an RPG with a job system and some light life sim elements. Entirely different things.

playing mostly - fantasy life, sword art online: hollow fragment, pokemon x&y, solatorobo, freedom wars, dragon ball z battle of z, futuridium. just got & about to play soon - shin megami tensei IV, one piece romance dawn & unlimited world red, muramasa rebirth, gundam seed battle ...
@Ralizah Could you elaborate? I just want to know whether I should buy or not.
RF typically involves running a farm, getting to know a village of people, dungeon-crawling, and marriage. Essentially, life-sim stuff with a healthy dose of RPG mixed in. The focus of the game is on the development of your relationship with others and maintenance of your farm.
FL involves a more traditional RPG storyline. The focus is not on building up relationships with others, but rather on developing your character. You do this through adopting different "lives" that allow you to become proficient in different skills, such as tailoring, cooking, fishing, alchemy, etc. This is unique for an RPG, as most stress character building primarily through combat. NPCs are almost universally well-written, and you will get to know some of them, but this is mostly peripheral to the primary, character-building focus of the game. Life-sim elements come in primarily through customization features, such as getting pets or customizing your home.
RF is like a Harvest Moon game + RPG combat and exploration, whereas FL is like a unique RPG + a tiny dose of Animal Crossing.

Well pet dragons can be obtained from Origin Island, which is unlocked after you beat the main story (well that's what I've read anyway).

The last line was meant for @GreatCrippler who asked about a healing spell.
Look: calm down and go to the Fantasy Life board at gamefaqs.com if you need help. You will find answers.

Allow me. Go to your nearest store and buy it. NOW!
Funny you should say that, cause I just did. In this case my nearest store was the eShop. This better be worth it...
Or what?
And if you're so on the fence about it then why not buy retail? At least you could get some money back on it if you don't like it.
Too late!
Well I know it's too late but with all the convincing you needed it just surprised me you went ahead a dl'ed it. My only dl regret was my very first retail dl game and that would be New Super Mario Bros. 2. Only because I know I'll never play it again.
