Microsoft doesn't care if they do work for Nintendo handhelds since Microsoft has no competing handheld device
Windows Phone 7?
that doesn't really count as a viable gaming device...
@YashaStepanovic That's true. So you could say the iPhone and iPad don't count either, even though all the game journalists claim that Apple is Nintendo's main competitor in the handheld business.

Apple devices are actually adopted by a large portion of the market segment (around 35% or so in the US), and there's a HUGE market for apple device games. This doesn't even take into account the large number of iPod Touch users worldwide, thus, opening up huge market opportunities
now, Windows phone, it comprises less than 1% of the cell phone market share, , there simply is no VIABLE market for selling games on them, not with decent profit margins. Now compare the DS, which just sold over 50 million units in the US alone, that's around 1 in 6 people in the US having a DS, in otherwords, MASSIVE market opportunities, there simply is room for a LOT more profit in the DS/3DS than there is in the windows phone, and Microsoft knows it.
Then Microsoft needs to try harder with WP7. It's quite ironic that Microsoft practically owns the PC market with Windows, yet with phones they are far behind the competition. What happened to the classic "Microsoft monopoly" and corporate bullying that they were so famous for in the 1990's?

The government stepped in and told Bill Gates to play nice.
That, and mirosoft just has a bad track record figuring out how to please consumers of mobile devices, they got it right with PCs, but not phones, though they are getting a bit better, they still have MAJOR competition in the form of Android (and Google in general, since Chrome OS is now competing with Windows for a small portion of the market share, namely netbooks) and iOS devices.

Chrome OS will never become as large as Windows or Mac. It's limited to just web applications, meaning you can't download or install any programs for yourself. The hard drives in ChromeBooks are extremely small (around 20 GB or less).

I digress though, my original point still stands about windows phone not being anywhere near as viable a gaming option as the iOS or DS and 3DS systems, either for consumer or developers
I might be wrong here but isn't DK64 "owned" by Rare, who are also owned by Microsoft? This would explain why DK64 never got released (or re-released) on the Wii Shop Channel... but whatever you do, don't expect a remake. also I want original software, not MORE ports from the N64
This. But if we did get a Rare game, I'd prefer Conkers Bad Fur Day. Probably the best game Rare created. Hardly any games nowadays have that amount of humour in them.
But come to think of it, I don't think Nintendo wants Nazi Teddy bears on their shiny new cuddly family-friendly handheld.

I hope you're not serious... Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo, any game that Rare made using Nintendo characters is owned by Nintendo. This includes Donkey Kong Country, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, StarFox Adventures, etc.
The only games Rare owns are the ones they created on their own (Battletoads, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, etc.). Microsoft acquired the rights to those games after they bought Rare from Nintendo and the Stamper brothers.
yeah that is true, if rare tried to make a Donkey Kong game again or re release dk64 on a microsoft platform of any kind they would be sued out the ass for it. NIntendo has full rights to re release DK 64 if they so choose rare has no say in it anymore.

Rare wouldn't even try to do that cause they know Nintendo wouldn't allow them. Nintendo is very strict with their properties, kind of like how Apple won't allow any other hardware companies to use their Mac and iOS software.
but at the same time, there's an issue with DK64 being developed by rare and a lot of rare properties being included in the game, which is why there's a little bit of a deadlock over the game, nintendo ultimately owns the characters, franchise, etc, but only parts of the game itself
Microsoft is lagging in mobile because it misjudged the smart phone, and realized late to the party that is needed a competitive product. Whether Microsoft was a 'bully' or not has nothing to do with... Anything, really.
Also, anyone who doesn't think the iPhone and iPad are costing Nintendo money truly has their heads shoved deep in the sand.

Microsoft can't compete with Apple and Google. They are so far behind in terms of market share AND support it's not even funny. Ironic, cause the opposite is/was true with their Windows PC market; Microsoft was the market leader, while Apple played catch-up.

I think you might be referring to Diddy Kong Racing, which had both Conker and Banjo in it. If you remember, DKR was remade for the DS, and those Rare characters were replaced with more generic ones.

no, I am referring to DK64, between Jetpac, and subtle references to other Rare IPs, there's be a lot to take out
