Topic: Do you think there will be a 3DS Lite?

It's inevitable. It's making my decision more difficult, knowing that a new version will most likely come out by Holiday 2012. For me to buy a 3DS this year, I'm gonna need to see a nice bundle.

i highly doubt that there going to make a 3DS lite, if anything they will make a new handheld before they do that... but i could be wrong

Why would you think that? They've made different literation of every new generation of handheld systems, so why stop now all of a sudden?

They already said the 3DS was stuffed to capacity, there won't be a version akin to the DS lite.

But I could see them make a 3DS XL, bigger screen, bigger battery, move the stylus to a spot you can see/feel instead of making you fumble around the dark side if the unit... lots of room for improvement.

Yes, there will be a revision of sorts, no doubt.

I don't think they will resort to this since their recent loss of money from the 3DS sales.

And, in my opinion, I don't think it needs a Lite.

If history is anything to go by, they will. Then again, I think all the hardware revisions that came out for the DS have probably hurt the 3DS, as it's very easy to just see the 3DS as yet another version of the DS. They might want to focus on just releasing new colors, since people will sometimes buy an extra system when a new color comes out.

It's possible they might change strategy this time, as the company's heads seem very reflective right now.

They won't make a revision and if they did it wouldn't be for a long while. The 3ds is fine and every itteration of the ds had a reason to why they made them. Plus you didn't have to buy every ds system. The 3ds is a great system accept it and if you want me to argue my statements let me know.

Really? For me it's like a no-brainer that we'll see a revision of the system at E3 2012. I'm surprised how many doubts it'll happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the revision gets out sooner rather than later seeing the slow sales of the 3DS now.

A 'cool' and nicer looking revision might boost sales.

Well the 3ds isn't bad looking. I understand why you might want one but it wouldn't make sense. The reason they didn't get a lot of sells is not because the design was bad it's because the price and lack of good nintendo titles plus lack of good 3rd party titles.

Probably not. People already see the 3DS as another addition to the DS gimmick line, they think it's a DS with 3D. They don't realize it's more powerful. If they created a 3DS Lite (or something like that) then they'd be gimmicking what is already viewed by most as a gimmick.

Besides, what could they really do to improve it? 3DS XL might work, but who really wants that? Any improvement I can imagine would be a new device.

Highly doubtful. I think the only change you may see within the next year or two would be an upgraded battery. I'm skeptical of them having the ability to create a larger screen while maintaining the 3D effect, and I think cutting features to create a "Lite" would be a losing move versus the Vita. The 3DS can go toe-to-toe with the Vita — Nintendo just needs to show people the ways in which the 3DS is better.
