I've seen quite a few people here saying they're going to wait for the "3DS Lite" to come out before they consider getting a 3DS. But do you think there will be a 3DS Lite at all? I remember reading here (I will post a link if I can find it) that Nintendo currently has "no plans" to release a revised 3DS version in the future. And right now I am inclined to believe that while there may be another 3DS version in the future, it won't be a "3DS Lite" in the sense of it being a lighter, slimmer version, possibly with some of the buttons and switches moved around. Instead I'm thinking that the "revised" version will be more like the DSi XL: basically the same system but bigger, and a better battery life. In general I don't think Nintendo is going to make the 3DS smaller, it's already about the same size as the DS Lite and any smaller would make it uncomfortable to use. Also better battery life is the only major hardware upgrade I can think of; things like a second analog stick are for the sucessor to 3DS and not just a revision." In summary, if there is a revision to the 3DS I don't think it will be a 3DS Lite in the sense of it being to the 3DS what the DS Lite was to the DS. What do you think? Will there be a "3DS Lite" or not?
If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...
No. Just no. I hope it just doesn't come. Maybe Nintendo releases like a better battery, which you can buy in a store in the categorie Accessoires. No big deal. A new device would be... argh, can't find the word.

What I would like to see is a new version with the whole top section being a screen. That would be awesome! It would be a huge screen and the 3D would probably look better!
Yes they will make a Lite. If you think back, the Original DS Fat sold badly, not as bad as the 3DS, but bad. Then Nintendo developed the DS Lite, and if you don't know about the massive success of the DS Lite, well...... you know nothing about Nintendo. Due to the massive success of the DS Lite, Nintendo said that there was on average 1 DS in every household in Europe and the USA. That's how many the DS Lite sold. Sorry to go on, but, people who aren't really very interested in Video Games, 99% of the time think of a DS Lite when your talking about a DS, because so few people in comparison the to the Lite have an Original DS, and i, or a DSi XL.
Yep. There's no doubt about it. However, you'll actually be able to purchase the bloody thing at around Christmas 2012, in which case the apocalypse will have commenced and at that point there's probably a better use for your money.

I agree with supermario 75, I believe they will at some point in the future make it with a slightly bigger screen and add another analog stick, better processor, better battery life, etc,, Yet I have to say I am still really impressed with the current model so I don't think we will see an upgrade model anytime soon maybe a couple more years down the 3DS road...
I'm sure they'll release a newer version eventually. With the Wii U coming out next year, they'll probably wait til 2013 at the earliest to release a revised 3DS. I think they'd smooth off the rough edges to make it look more like the DS Lite. A closed 3DS looks a lot more jagged then a closed DS Lite. And make the bottom touch screen and circle pad not make contact with the top screen.

I don't know what they could really add to the existing without it being a successor rather than a revision, but I'm pretty sure there's gonna be one eventually. Perhaps they could figure out a way to make the 3D less wearing on your eyes.
Longer answer. Maybe. If the sales for the 3DS continue to be poor, Nintendo may just slowly let the 3DS die and move to a whole other system. I imagine their next handheld after the 3DS will be a lot more powerful graphically and most definitely be more online capable.
When that happens really depends on the sales of the 3DS continuing to suck in Nintendo's eyes. If sales stay decent, we'll get a 3DS Lite, my guess is next holiday. If they continue to suck, probably a whole new system.
the 3ds already is small enough. no need for a "lite" version. just stupid. most people want a bigger one like the dsiXL but i dont know if the 3D screen is good for that. it is very expansive and a bigger 3D screen would make the console much more bigger. and the battery life would suffer from that. so no real advantages.
Well it doesn't really matter if it's a bit smaller or a bit bigger but there will be a new model at some point and I won't even consider buying a 3DS before I see that.
Frankly I'm amazed they were able to fit what they did in the 3DS, never mind making it smaller. Plus the cost would increase if the size decreased.
Though I can see a 3DS with an improved battery, or just Nintendo making a better battery for a current 3DS. I imagine it would be called the 3DS+ or something.
I believe Nintendo had already said they weren't going to release a "3DS Lite" because the 3DS isn't really going to get any thinner. Of anything, they might improve the 3D technology being used in some way, but it will probably still be sold as a normal 3DS.

Eventually, yes but not for some time. Like years. The DS sold faster than the 3DS which made it more possible to come out with new products. They need to start turning a overall net profit on the regular 3DS project before they consider a new and improve console in my honest opinion.
