Topic: Do you think 3ds ware games are overpriced?

Fundamentally, I don't have a problem with 3DS or eShop pricing. Someone did a nice feature on this, saying that because of the increased development costs for a proper handheld, and the more limited audience (let's face it, most games will struggle to break the 50,000-60,000 mark) that having the price at around £5 is the only way they can make money, and even then they can't make that much. As for VC games, again I don't have a problem. You're paying for the convenience of not having your trousers busted by carrying a Game Boy, Game Gear and 3DS around with you. A decent trade-off, I think you'll agree.

You have to remember that iOS and Android are much more popular by nature than 3DS, meaning that it's not inconceivable a hit app could make a tidy profit at 79p. Equally, however, both markets are so saturated it's equally likely you'll sell nothing, no matter what the price.

I go by Lin1876 everywhere in games, so keep an eye out for me!

If you look under the Coming Soon to the eShop tab with today's update, you'll see Block Factory costs $4 and Bird Mania 3D costs $2. The eShop is capable of offering high quality games with lots of content for $8 or $10 as well as smaller and cheaper games $2 - $5. However, I do think Nintendo should get rid of the minimum price. Why should Angry Birds cost me $1 on my phone but at the very least $2 on my 3DS, doesn't make much sense to me.

Yes. The games are overpriced, however my main beef with Nintendo's online system in terms of money is not that things are overpriced, it's that there are never any sales. NEVER.

THAT is a bad digital store when you don't have sales.

Overpriced? Well maybe some are slightly but in the main I think they are fair. I agree that sales would be welcome now and then though. Much more likely to take a chance on a game if its half price.

What's this bit for again?

I don't object to them launching at the prices they do.

What I have a problem with is that they will NEVER drop in price. If I didn't want to buy a game for £7.20 when you launched it nintendo, why would I 12 months later?

Nintendo could rake in a lot more cash from me if they'd drop the prices of games over time or had something similar to steam sales, or some such other limited time offers.

I tend to agree.

Are the games overpriced? Generally no. Prices are fair, even if people have learned to be excessively cheap due to "race to the bottom" pricing on iOS and the general social acceptance of piracy for older IP. That doesn't mean I'm actually willing to pay many of these games though - at least not at full price.

I'd really like to see more pricing flexibility regarding sales and price drops, but doubt it will happen since Nintendo seems dead-set on avoiding the iOS pricing wars at any cost.

For the quality of some of the games on the eShop so far, their price is not too high by a long shot.
I do agree with a lot of other people here though that sales would be a good idea to implement though.

they are not overpriced, but since the switch to eshop, dsiwares got a lot more expensive with the taxes, but the 3DS games aren't, well the good ones i mean

Seeing as how several of the games (Pushmo and Dillon's Rolling Western for instance) could have been released on cartridges with just a little more content (Not necessarily $40, but easily $20+), I'd say the games are priced perfectly. That said, I'd still love for Nintendo to start having sales like most other digital game stores.

It depends on the game. For the most part I think everything is priced very well. The only thing I felt was a tad overpriced was Mutant Mudds (it's a great game, but not noticeably better than VVVVVV or MSF, the other two neo retro platformers on the service, which are both less expensive).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Mutant Mudds is $9, worth every penny.
VVVVVV is $8, worth every penny.
Pushmo and Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword are $7, each worth every penny.

You can't make a statement like "3DSWare is overpriced." It's up to each individual game justifies its asking price

THIS. I mean, although there are plenty of awesome games worth $0.99 (CUT THE ROPE), it can't really beat excellent game design of Mutant Mudds and Pushmo. The price will only be as high as the quality will be (in most cases, Urban Champion should not be sold for $4.99). For a more extreme example, I'd rather pay $8.99 for Mutant Mudds than play a free-to-play game (Runescape, Dragon Nest, DC Universe Online, etc), because with my payment, I expect the complete package, not with stupid micro-transactions that, in the end, will cost you more than if the game was released at a set price.

Everyone should read this before posting. I haven't read a post in weeks that has had this much truth in it.

Out of the games I've purchased:

Mutant Mudds: Perhaps. Beating the game took only 2.5 hours. 100% took around 5-6. So decent for perfectionists I assume.
Mighty Switch Force!: In reality, yes (Took less then 2 hours to 100% it). But the game is so damn good that I would say no.
Pushmo: Not the biggest fan of this game TBH, but it's a LOT of content, so a definite no.
Pyramids: lol accidental buy. This game is cheap and offers a lot for the money, even if it isn't the most engaging.

So, as of now, no. It's much better then some of the pricings on WiiWare (SBCG4AP) and DSiWare (Surviving High School).

This is a signature.

Screw you.

I guess it's worth saying "I buy what looks fun", so generally, I disagree with this line of thinking. Looking at my 3DS (where all my DSiWare titles are) menu, I can say there are only two or three titles that jump out at me as upsetting some kind of price-to-value ratio that eShop and DSiWare share, though I admit, the small trend is that the few DSiWare titles being considered are lacking in content compared to the mean, while the few eShop titles being considered exceed the mean in content.

The only games that I feel are overpriced are both UFO interactive games. I think the pricing is good for 3DSWare titles, as long as it isn't horribly expensive.

I do think that Virtual Console games should be somewhat cheaper as it doesn't really cost much money for Nintendo to release them. However, the 3DSWare games are easily worth what you pay for them, Dillon's Rolling Western could pass as a retail title as well as Mutant Mudds if it had a little more content.

No. $5.99 for one of the best game ever created (LoZ:LA) is not expensive, and it's the same way with all the Virtual Console games, the 3DSWare is not overpriced. You seem to be looking for Android and iOS games but these are real ones. You get what you pay for and the $5.99 games are 6X better than the average smartphone game. Simple as that.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.

Personally I don't think Pushmo NEEDS any more content. I bought it christmas day and STILL haven't beaten it. And with all the players constantly making more levels, it doesn't seem we'll ever run out of quality levels in that game.
