I don't remember who said it, but another poster here described the situation perfectly. If you want to see the gamepad and your tv at the same time, you need to hold the gamepad in outstretched arms like a Karate instructor holding a block of wood to be chopped by a student!
Ha, that's a great and accurate description.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.
There are a few games that use the concept masterfully, and while the rest don't use it in a particularly meaningful way, never once have I came across a game where I felt like it was worse off because of the second screen, and I haven't heard that from anyone else either...
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I'm amazed that people think that having a map, items, de-cluttering the screen, etc. is actually important to them (and in most cases, certainly on the Wii U, you're still pausing the game and looking away from the action, so I don't see what real difference it makes).
I guess it has something to do with feeling some kind of freedom that way. You don't have to wait until the menu turns up or until it goes away.
Some may also feel that the experience doesn't feel as disrupted since it feels more natural to just have it available all the time instead of having to trigger it every time.
