@SpookyMeths Good to hear so far. Have you played any of the Etrian games and if so how does it compare?
I've played Etrian Odyssey Untold, which I enjoyed a lot too. The combat is a pretty fantastic marriage between the two, so far. The exploration and combat party structure is ripped straight from EO, but with all the Persona wrapping, like personas and fusion and all that. Need to play around with it a lot more to get a real impression on the depth though. Still just starting out.
I guess you could say it's like Hyrule Warriors. Definitely feels like a Warriors (Etrian Odyssey) game, but dressed up in so much Zelda (Persona) that it's completely fresh and great service to fans of both series.
That was expected though. The pleasant surprise for me is that there appears to be a good story focus. Coming from Persona 4 Arena, there was just a bare-bones story that mostly just served as an hand-wave excuse as to why the good guys from P3/4 were all fighting each other (not that story is important in a fighting game).
My LE Persona Q 3DS XL just arrived in the mail! It's beautiful. Doing the data transfer now. CE with the soundtrack and artbook and stuff is due to arrive in a couple hours too. Today is a good Friday.

I'm enjoying it a lot. Persona started out as a type of first person dungeon crawler, so I'm not sure why people are so on the fence about it. The only real Etrian influence I really notice is the battle screen, and the map drawing. Everything else is your basic Persona. The 3DS XL edition is gorgeous, but I'm leaving mine in the box.
Played this game for 4 hours already! I am really loving it so far! Great music (like expected from atlus), visuals and gameplay. The only problem that I have is that I have not grasped the concept of the sub personas yet. I know how it works, now I need to find out what is effective for the characters. Speaking of the characters, I have never played a persona game before so there are many things in the story as of now that I do not understand. I hope it doesn't get any worse as the story progresses. The writing for the characters and interaction between them is great though.
There are a several ways to go about determining what secondary persona you want to add to a character. One is looking at the strength of the character and finding a demon that takes advantage of that strength. For example, if a character is a natural with fire elemental than adding a fire wielding demon will boost the fire attacks. The other is finding one that complements the character in such a way that it plugs up the weakness inherent in that character. For example, if a character is weak against fire, you can attach a demon that takes away that weakness. Finally, you can take a look at your party as a whole and see to it that you have every elemental covered and/or can handle whatever environment is thrown at you.
As for the story, you've only played 4 hours. Things start to get clearer as you progress. You do not really need to have known what happened in their original respective games.
Personally, I grew to like this game. I've only played Persona 4 and absolutely loved it so the 3DS version of the series was initially disappointing. One of the things that make Persona distinct from SMT and its other offshoots is the social links which is absent in this game. The other thing was that I did not want to play another EO with just a Persona coating. After having completed the initial dungeon, I'm happy to say that the story is fantastic! The gameplay, enhanced with great artwork, battle scenes, and cut scenes makes this game such a joy to play. I love the dungeon drawing icons so much that I hope they adopt that for the next EO game. I did not care to go through the dungeon drawing every aspect and the auto feature let me just concentrate on the important events in the dungeon.
Despite the heavy influence of EO, it still manages to keep most of the aspects that make it a Persona type game. Each character has their own unique Persona to start of with (except for 2 characters) and as the game progresses, you'll be able to incorporate other demons into your persona and thereby tweak your character to your vision.
While not as harsh as the masochistic game that is EO, you will most likely experience TPK at some point in the game. Mine came on the 3rd floor of the 1st dungeon and again facing off the first stage boss.
Haha, thanks for the advice Oninowon! Currently 22 hours in and almost done with the second labyrinth. I really started to love most of the characters, especially with the strolls and quests you unlock after the first labyrinth. This game has waaaay more charm then any of the EO games. I do feel the game is really easy compared to EO though. I am playing on normal and haven't died once as of yet.
Gonna be honest here, I got about 3 hours into the game and thought "man, I really want to play EO now." So I've been playing EOU and EO4 lately and haven't picked up Persona Q again... I'll get back to it eventually though, I won't let this one get lost in my backlog!

That was my experience with story mode in Untold. Got a few hours into it and wanted nothing more than to experience the game properly in Classic mode. Build my own party and run through the game at my own pace. I'll play the story mode through fully one day, but I won't think of it as EO. Too many changes.

I bought the CE under the impression that it would, you know, make for a great collector's piece. It really isn't. It's just a box with everything thrown inside, and the box isn't even that nice. I'll probably be selling it, minus the tarot cards and case. That's game + artbook + soundtrack CD, all still sealed.
On the other hand, the LE Persona Q 3DS XL is gorgeous and you can pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth understands why we play games in the first place. With so much entertainment spread across the media and on increasingly bigger screens and resolutions, it takes real gumption to harken back to an old-school first-person dungeon crawler on the relatively small Nintendo 3DS, using a stylus to draw the digital equivalent of pen-and-paper maps. But all gamers are looking to get lost in the magic of something other than our own lives, and what accomplishes that better than a maze? Not for nothing does Persona Q take place in a literally timeless world and model its first dungeon after Alice in Wonderland. Every tile captures and compels your attention, whether that's in the logic puzzles hidden in the creepy scenery, FOE monsters, or the handcrafted map itself, or within the challenging combat, which makes the most of the skills each of the 17 playable characters brings to Teddie—ahem, to bear. Wandering off the beaten path has never been so rewarding, and with so many scenes between the loveable casts of Persona 3 and 4 hidden down terminal routes, it's a disservice to call them "dead ends." There's nothing but life in Persona Q.

It looks like Atlus' $50 price tag will be the norm in the future so I don't blame Spoony for waiting. I highly doubt the physical copy will ever go down but the digital version is another story if you don't mind a digital version.
I was disappointed with the xtras that came with the $50. I would rather have the soundtrack than the graphically crappy Tarot cards (and you don't even get the full set!).

I don't want to wait, I really want to play the game but enough is enough on these 50$ prices. I have more then enough to play till it and now Record Breaker come down in price and I'll be happy to dl them when the sale is right.
Now if EO goes this route I may have to swallow my Pride and pick that up day one but I doubt it for whatever reason.
