@Raptor78: I think Solablood meant walk in all possible directions using only the Circle Pad. But that's because he's using the primary controller scheme, that sticks camera controls to left and right. You get full control over the character's movement (that is, strifing left and right with the Circle Pad instead of holding the L shoulder button) using the Circle Pad Pro or changing the control scheme to ABXY camera controls, if you can get used to it.

Remember Capcom's promise, that the game will 'go back to the roots' (which is something a LOT of people seem to cry out for)? And yet, it uses exactly the same mechanics as RE 4 and 5...

With kind regards,

your misunderstanding what they meant, and what most players want. by back to the roots it means its going back to the more difficult survival horror. ammo is extremely precious, every shot counts, taking just one hit could prove to end you in the long run. They didn't mean mechanics as far as controls, style, and such, i believe they mean returning to be much more true to the survival horror genre, instead of "OMG ZOMBIES KILL WITH ROCKETS!"

No. By back to the roots we mean scary. Ammo isn't a concern, controls were never a concern, nothing but being on the edge of your seat, anticipating something freaky to jump out, is what fans want.

I've never played an RE game before but I imagine it would be a lot more intense if you have little ammo to fight whatever might jump out than a lot. Not only would you be scared of stuff popping out but also scared that you might die at any moment.

Which would eventually become irritating. I don't enjoy things that irritate me, sorry.

@waveboy To answer your question about the 3d. No this demo blows mercenaries out of the water! It wasn't bad mind you but no where near as good.

Scary? I don't recal Resident Evil ever being scary. lol Alright...Definitly in the 'jump' scare department, but the RE series has gradually been slipping into the anti-scary zone ever since RE2 until the Remake reared it's head. The PS1 original hands down 'was' pretty scary during it's release along with offering quite a distinct, fresh and haunting experience.

Anyways. I just don't find any of the zombies or monsters in the traditional RE games scary in this day age. Lisa Trevor had potential.

As for those new creatures in the Revelations demo, they don't exactly have the 'creepy' factor going on. Although that bloated fat monster that basically explodes if you go near it startled me at first because of it's eye catching unique and funked up design.

Anyways, the scariest modern game I've ever played would have to be Ju-On: The Grudge for the Wii. Ya it's scary-bad in the controls deparment, but it's jump scares are heart pumping, and being plunked in darkness knowing that 2 ghosts(Kayoko is the stuff of nightmares) are out to get you while randomly smashing things in the dark and the like makes for one unsettling and nerve racking experience. I was too scared to keep going....
Combined with the dreafully slow gameplay and terrible clunky flash light controls haha.

Silent Hill is known for it's tense and disturbing atmosphere. Does that = scary?

I agree with it's decline. I find it more nerve wrecking scary rather than piss your pants scary. Which is still scary. Maybe it's just me but I find RE and Silent Hill to be scary games for their dreary, hopeless atmospheres, frightening enemies, disturbing music. etc. But some people don't find games scary, like I don't find movies scary.

having little to no ammo and always having the possibility of something attacking you is what scares me. not only do i want the jump factor of being scared, i also want to have to use ammo carefully, have the game be more difficult, and more. not just scariness. it is after all a survivor horror game, not just a horror game.

also aside from you, i have never met another resident evil fan that doesn't want the ammo in this game to be treated as the most sacred of jewels.

Any kid at that age probably couldn't handle Resident Evil, either. Your point?

Anyways, Silent Hill has the massive edge in delivering a more unsettling and disturbing experience...Those games can be quite depressing if anything. Fatal Frame apperantly is supposed to be scariest game franchise out there. Yet i haven't played any of those aside from maybe 15 minutes of FFII so I obviously can't form a flippin opinion.

Silent Hill 2 has been claimed to be the scariest game of all time by many sites. I've only played the newer SH including SH 4, Homecoming and that PSP one. FFatal Frame I've never played.

Surviving isn't just about ammo. It's about taking careful actions and knowing when to heal. Not just ammo. But the survival part of survival horror games, doesn't complement the horror side. And by that I mean lack of ammo and health shouldn't scare you out of your skin.

also aside from you, i have never met another resident evil fan that doesn't want the ammo in this game to be treated as the most sacred of jewels.

Because ammo isn't an issue.

@viewtiful_Joe
1) did i ever say surviving was only about ammo? no. i was merely using it as an example. and i would much rather have some survivor elements, rather than pure horror. When i play a survival game im always "scared" of dying at intense points. In resident evil i get that and i get "freaked scared" when something jumps from a vent. Thats what i like about the series.
2) so you agree with me? i don't think you meant to but what i meant was every resident evil fan i have ever talked to (aside from you) have all wished for that higher level of survivor elements to be brought back. again, using ammo as an example.

But each of us are entitled to our own opinions and will most likely never agree on this topic. So let's just agree that we want to have fun in RE:R and move on.

Then again you never said it wasn't. I'm sure games scare you for whatever reason. Call of Duty scares me on many occasions as does Minecraft. Lack of ammo more or less makes the game suspenseful and difficult. But if it scares you then that's cool too.

Of course I agree. I don't really care for lack of ammo but if it was true then albeit. It doesn't make Resident Evil scary for me but maybe it does for you and other people. What makes a game scary is feeling helpless no matter what. Knowing there is little chance of hope and being this guy/gal would be the worse thing in the world. Freaky things jumping out at you, being cornered by a creature(s) and even witnessing something in the background moving in a disturbing manner that draws you to a sudden stun, before it notices you while in the background and runs away.

But I guess that's why I play SH rather than RE for my scare fix.

I like the old RE feel in the games atmosphere, and the newer controls makes it an excellent game.

Ahh thought so! I'm glad i passed on Mercanaries and waited out for a true Resident Evil experience aka Revelations. A glorified Mercanaries mode just doesn't interest me....Seems like a quick and easy way to make a quick Capcom-buck.

The 3D is about the same as the Demo included with the Mercs game, the Mercs itself wasnt bad but both Demos were better. Infact there hasnt really been much or any graphical upgrades between Demos but then again the donwloadable demo is pretty much the one that was going around the Nintwndo events when Mercs was released.
As far as the Mercs game it was more than a glorified Mercenaries game and there was quite a lot to it. Not a true Resident Evil game but much more than Mercenaries. It is pretty much an arcade game though and i wouldnt put it over a [u]real[] resident evil game but I certainly wouldnt dismiss it.

apologies if I've missed it somewhere but has anyone tried it with the circle pad? I'd like to know if it makes it much easier/more comfortable to play.

If you're talking about the CCPro attachment I have not. I don't think it's even released yet?

romulux

the circle pad pro releases on the same day as revelations, at least in north america. there is a control scheme you can use that mimics the cppro by using the face buttons to move the camera and aim like a second analog but.... wow it sucks! it's still interesting to try it.
