People need to stop taking offense at 3DS XL. It's not meant to be a new Nintendo handheld. It's great for people like me who didn't get a 3DS because of its smaller size. Or people that like their 3DS, but want bigger screens like the XL. It simply fills a gap in their handheld system line up. I wanted 3DS like I said, but it was too small (I'm not a young guy that needs portability for travel). I also almost bought an XL, but it wasn't 3D! Then 3DS XL was released and it meets all my needs. Just as it is intended. And for the record, I LOVE that 3DS XL has one analog control like the original 3DS. I am fine with just adding an analog accesory should I choose to play something that truelly needs that.
It does look pretty similar to the DS Phat... Maybe that's why I think it's so ugly.
The original model is more like a beautiful DS Lite (which is the best DS).
So by that, I come to the conclusion that the 3DS XL is a step backwards, but a lot of people seem to want it so at long as you all enjoy it then that's good I guess.
The original looks ugly to me now compared to the XL and it will be more comfortable like the Phat was. (Finger prints be gone!) It's more of a step forward in other ways as well.
Eh, its the same as it is with everything. It all boils down to personal preference. Personally, I liked the original DS better than the DS Lite, largely because I have big hands and the bulk felt more comfortable to me and partly because I loved the spaceship look of the original. That said, I ended up playing the DS Lite more for two simple reasons: the glorious screens and battery life! Hopefully, this 3DS XL will combine all of the elements that matter to me; comfort, brightness and clarity, and a just a smidgen of that spaceship look I loved so much.
I liked the DSphat, actually. The LR buttons were sturdy for me. 3DS XL is like a cross between DSphat and DSlite in design (buttons, finish, etc). Glad the LR buttons look better than the 3DS'.
