The DS phat was a monster. I loved it has a very rugged Industrial feel to it. It looked like it could go through a storm and that it had very good build qualify.

I agree completely. Love my phat and it is the only DS I've had since the launch and its still going strong. It may not be the sexiest bit of tech around but it sure feels good to hold.

i also agree, with the caveat that the screen lighting was way too low for me.
I've never had a Phat. What are the shoulder buttons like?
The original DS in general was a pretty great system. To me, it seemed like the most durable of the DS family. A friend of mine even accidentally ran over his with a car and it still worked (although it never looked quite as good afterwards). Speaking specifically of the shoulder buttons, they just felt right. They were slightly wider and thicker making them far more comfortable than the later models, at least to me. They also had more of a rock to them, almost like they were on little hinges and had a softer click to them compared to the pronounced click of the newer ones. That made absolutely no sense, did it? If you've ever used an original GBA, they were kind of like the shoulder buttons there, but they were somehow, in some inexplicable way, better... That still didn't make sense.
@Fuzzy My understanding was that apparently he had a weak spot in his pocket and the wieght of the system caused it to rip as he got int his car. It was pretty hilarious he kept using that system for about a year afterwards. The only thing the car incident did to it was damage the hinge; the screen would kind of just flop back and forth.
@Nibelitt Yeah, I think the GBA is probably the closest comparison I can think of because of the rocking motion they both had. They just felt a bit better in my opinion, on the DS. I'll be incredibly happy if they bring back that style button.
I've seen those screens, dem screens are bigger than the European Debt Crisis.
I think me,and David Cameron are in love.

@waveboy: but i've also read/heard that the screens are actually brighter and the colours more saturated. (can't cite as i've looked at so damn many these past few days).
unless they are measuring brightness etc with an instrument, it is subjective anyway. guess we will just have to wait and see for ourselves.
