Following on from last week's Mega Victreebel reveal, The Pokémon Company has revealed another powered-up 'mon, with Mega Hawlucha joining the fray in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
The new Mega was introduced in a new combat-focused short on the official Pokémon YouTube channel titled 'FULL MATCH: Hawlucha vs. Machamp'. Rather fittingly, it showed the titular 'mon facing off in the ring before a Mega evolution mixed things up.
The design this time around is really rather cool, with Mega Hawlucha boasting a snazzy glittering gold coat and chest piece. According to TPC, this pocket rocket measures in at 3'3" and 55.1 lbs.

Here's the official description and a handful of in-game screenshots from The Pokémon Company:
Bulked up by Mega Evolution, it uses its muscles to take hit after hit from opponents’ moves and flex its own strength. After luring its opponent into attacking, it retaliates to make them flinch before diving at them using its signature move, Flying Press, to aim for victory.
The above reveal is quite something, but if you'd like to see what this new take on the Gen VI Fighting/Flying Type looks like in-game, you can find a more realistic reveal trailer below.

Easily the best mega evolution reveal so far, that Mega Hawlucha design does not disappoint.
More Mega Evolutions, you love to see it! Now Diancie is not the only Gen 6 Mega anymore.
Mad the generation that added Megas is only just now getting them.
Anyway, this is exactly what Megas should be. Pokemon that could use the boost, and instead of slapping spikes all over, take the design to its logical conclusion.
No, the Megas added in Gen 6 were largely not needed, there to sell merch, and were overdesigned.
@Hapless They've revealed three. The game is out in 7-8 weeks. At one a week there is plenty left under wraps, believe me.
Great video and Mega Evolution (not to mention that as cool as it would've been if Machamp also got one Hawlucha definitely needed it more) - looking forward to Legends Z-A even more than I already was!
@Hapless
The Pokémon Company has been notorious for doing reveals of new content leading up to the game's release, it's an effective marketing campaign.
They have however dialled back the extent of the reveals compared to the 3DS days, and they do actually leave a number of surprises for the game itself.
+50 points to Attack stat. +50 points to Speed stat. That's my prediction.
So they should just make an arcade-y pokemon wrestling game.
About time Hawlucha got some love. Would I prefer they got an actual, permanent evolution? Yeah. Is this still cool though? Yeah!
HAWLUCHA FINALLY GOT THEIR DUES OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD 😭
Hawlucha is a very big personal favourite of mine from Gen 6 (the first ever mon I got to Level 100 at that) so I've always wanted to see them get some love in terms of new forms and whatnot and this is literally everything I could've possibly asked for out of a Mega: it ratchets up every aspect of base Hawlucha to eleven to give it the ultimate pro wrestling vibe imaginable. I knew we were due for a 'cool' Mega sooner rather than later and I'm so glad it went to one of my favourite mons around 🤩
@daftmagician
ive always been curious about Pokken Tournament 🤔
but yes Pokemon wrestling could be amazing 😂✌️
Always liked Hawlucha and this mega looks really cool
Definitely will be on my team
I'm still truly not a fan of mega evolutions as a mechanic, but the designs for them tend to be pretty cool. This one is no different. Very nice design!
I like it. What I like about the Megas is that it's like GF looked at some of the older designs and thought 'ok, if we were to redesign this Pokémon, how would it look?' Give Dragonite more Dragonair features, make Slowbro look more goofy akin to Slowpokes more aloof look
In terms of how how frequently TPCi doing these reveals, I think it's worth keeping in mind that they have to deal a significant issue since the 3DS days- leakers. It happened when the Sun and Moon demo got datatmined revealing most of the Pokédex, we had that one outlet who leaked Sword and Shields contents via a guide, you have people like Centro who brazenly leak info, the Tera Leak had an incomplete build which someone is going through. When you're TPCi and you see that, what can you do? I know they've tried taking action for it (Centro gets very arrogant and smug about it too). I would agree they showed too much during the lead up to Gen 7 but I think they've reigned it back since then and I don't blame them for not doing downloadable demos. I think the main upset should be aimed at leakers ruining surprises. That said, with Pokémon you're danged if you do, danged if you don't. Show too much and people will say you're spoiling everything, show too little and some will say they've hardly shown anything.
For anyone worried they're showing things too much, by the sounds of it you won't have to worry about all the Megas being shown before release.
(Full disclosure- I don't work for TPCi so I can't talk 😜)
Not a huge transformation but one that keeps true to it's nature and design. I like it!
@abbyhitter
The animation puts emphasis on it being able to tank an attack it previously was not able to, and its overall form is a lot bulkier.
It's probably going to get a big physical defense boost.
I've never liked Hawlucha. However this is purely due to personal taste and not hatred of the base design. So congrats to Hawlucha fans.
Plus at least we FINALLY got a mega that didn't feel like a troll move. It actually looks like a powered up form, which is what I want from mega forms.
The more I see about PLZA, the more charming and interesting it gets. Pokemon may never look like the prettiest game, but they do excel at raw fun and enjoyment.
I thought the design looked not so great in the trailer and I was so sad...
But the in-game screenshots look so much better! Actually a very cool mega!
I like the design, but I’ll always prefer regular/permanent evolutions over mega evolutions for Pokemon like Hawlucha that don’t evolve.
This looks so cool, honestly my favorite new Mega so far! The other two are cool as well, but did look a bit more goofy than I expected.
It's a great design. Loved that video. I wish matches actually looked like that. Do their moves actually act similar to how they are portrayed in this video? I haven't played a game for a long while.
@Hapless there's going to be more 3 megas in the game i can confirm. Even more than 6, even triple that 9, even more.
Glad Nintendo is finally committing to mega evolutions. Feels like this should have been a priority back in Gen 7, given that it was a big deal for Gen 6, but hey, what can you do? I like the megas better than the gigantic Pokemon and terra stuff
So Hawlucha became Rey Misterio? Sorry, I don't know much about wrestling and that's the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw the mask colors.
With that said, I love that Hawlucha is getting a Mega Evolution, but as others have said, I wish it also got an actual Evolution. Call it Maskle (mask + muscle) if you have to.
As an aside, I would've loved to have Hawlucha as the wrestling Pokémon in Smash Bros. and not Incineroar. Nothing against good ol' Gaogaen but I feel Hawlucha being Flying-type could've made for a more interesting moveset. That and the fact it's semi representation of my country and I could pretend it to be Tizoc from Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
“Those eggs were a lie, Steven. A LIE! They give me no eagle powers! They give me no nutrients!”
Wish they kept the sparkling gold from the trailer in the actual in-game design but still super in love with the design. Almost 100% sure he'll be earning a place on my team. Can't wait.
I’m noticing that France doesn’t look very French. Expedition 33 had the same issue. I hope the final game doesn’t have that issue.
If I'm getting this game (big if, so far) Hawlucha will be one of my team picks!
I love how they sneaked in moves' special effects into the animation so that you can tell with only visuals and no words
Is that a feather you got there Mega Hawlucha, or are you just happy to see me?
This is the first normal Gen 6 to have a Mega, right?
This is gonna be such a fan favourite. Easily the sexiest Mega Evolution reveal so far, and perhaps even arguably, of all.
I have to say that for someone that waited for Hawlucha's mega evolution for years, I don't feel as positive as others. I don't hate it, it's just that it looks like the normal one with a mask and shoulder pads on as well as the feather belt (that one was a nice touch). Original design already looked like a mask and like it's natural colors more. I'm still happy tho.
I think it looks pretty cool. I like every new evolution so far.
Of the 3 reveals so far. Hawlucha got the best looking Mega.
@Fizza Hawlucha is my favorite mon of all time! I was concerned that I would hate the design before the reveal, but I think it's pretty solid. GameFreak didn't overdo it this time, and Mega Hawlucha looks like it could have been a natural evolution to base Hawlucha (now that I mention it, that's what should have happened, lol).
@Zeebor15 Right, the only one before this was the mythical Diancie
@VoidPunk sir, this is Kalos
I’m slowly becoming more and more intrested to pick this game up. Haven’t enjoyed a Pokemon title since Sun and Moon.
@RupeeClock we all know that pokemon considers "tanking attacks" as a sometimes useful ability like battle armor. and look at that costume, its going to get battle armor in the pokemon home update. BUT maybe it can get fur coat instead. would be an amazing urshifu counter with either ability though.
@slowpoke_tail i just hate that a mega evo basically means "this pokemon will never evolve because only final stage mons can mega evlve" so RIP to absol and houndoom (still bitter dex entry 666 wasnt a three headed hellhound evolution for houndoom)
dont let this distract you from the fact that the kalos starters are probably not getting a mega yet but i assume that eventually every starter will have a mega.
