Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Trainers Reportedly Encounter New Game Crash In Version 2.0.1 Update

That's a very specific way of triggering it, but not exactly hard for those that registered the box legendary sooner than they were technically supposed to. Still, hopefully there's a fix.

It's just low hanging fruit at this point.

This has to be a joke, there's no way a bug that's this easy to replicate actually got past QA...Is what I would say if it weren't pokemon scarlet and violet that we were talking about.

I wonder if I ever want to consider the DLC when the base games itself still get suffered from bugs, glitches and etc.

I wonder if it would happen if you had the opposite version's legendary in the Dex. Probably not, but this is such a weird bug.

What annoys me most about S/Vs problems is the core underneath the mess is so good and the best gameplay loop the series has ever had.

@HeeHo To be fair, the smooth gameplay is really the only valid defense I see for this game (outside the League challenge & the mons themselves). Don’t get me started on the negatives, because I will do everything in my power to not let TPC live down the fact that they ripped off Tubba Blubba from Paper Mario.

@HeeHo I don't know if I'd go that far but they are definitely the most I've enjoyed Pokemon since Gen 5, even if they do still run poorly and have annoyances like going, "Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy?" every single time you understand a basic gameplay mechanic in a fight against a name character.

Huh, I just got through that battle after a long break from Pokemon. I guess I count myself lucky.

As a software engineer, one has to wonder how a regression bug cropped up in the final battle due to patch changes targeting the dlc. Is their code base a bowl of spaghetti?

@Deltarogue it may not have gotten past QA. QA find, replicate and report bugs, they also do compliance checks, but they don’t fix the issue. The rest of the dev team does that, and they only do it if their leads and/or production assign them the issue.

It could easily be that QA found it, tested thoroughly and reported it, maybe even pushed for it to be fixed and someone else dismissed it or forgot to hand it out.

I like bugs as much as the next person, but this is ridiculous!

I guess I'll just stick with Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp. No updates required!

What sucks is that generally nintendo titles are pretty snappy at fixing major bugs but gamefreak will take over an month to fix one and add a new major big in each update

This game is being held together with tape and glue.

And they have the gall to release an unfinished DLC combo cartridge for more than AU$130!

And for a game substantially less enjoyable than the mostly excellent Legends Arceus (no DLC required there!).

They should have stuck to fixing Scarlet/Violet's (still!) persisting issues and perhaps reconstituted the DLC expansions into a smaller, standalone experience (seeing as they're charging nearly as much as a standalone game for it!). The Sword/Shield DLC didn't particularly benefit from utilising pre-existing save data, and the dojo missions would have been a nice substitute for level-building to the gyms from the mainland games, and they could very well have stood on their own.

In any case, Scarlet/Violet has been an utter embarrassment for Game Freak/TPCi. I still enjoyed my time with it for the most part, but I think Sword/Shield were much more fun, and also looked and performed better overall. The open world structure also didn't really work as you still needed to play the game with some degree of linearity or risk being overpowered later on.

I think the main series should stick to more linear game design (but with Wild Area like zones to explore, with the Sword/Shield DLC handling exploration particularly well), while Legends, assuming that it evolves into a series, is better suited for the open world concept.

@RadioShadow : It's a sad reflection on the industry given that games without updates are now the almost extreme exception rather than the norm.

What bug is that? From what I have played of AWRBC, the only two crashes I had was:

• I activated Olaf's AW1 Power (I guess Blizzard was too strong).
• During the AI's turn as Grit, the music's speed increased, and the game got confused.

Thankfully in Campaign / War Room, it saves automatically after each unit has made an action, so no progress was lost.

I have heard that some people have had the wrong units appear during Battle Animations. I think it happened to me once, but otherwise, the correct animations played.

There is an exploit to get more money on Day 1, but you have to go out of your way to get this to work. If you want to be a cheating git, then be a cheating git.

I would love an update to fix these minor issues, but I feel WayForward have abandoned the game, so I'm not holding my breath. On the other hand, no updates, which is cool for those who own a physical copy.

No offense, but GameFreak has really proven this generation that they are just very backwards when it comes to video games. They just can't sensibly bring the Pokémon series into modern times. I only see three ways that Pokémon could go further:

1. Going back to the pixel/simple 3DS graphics era (generations 1 - 6).

2. Get support from an external studio, like Monolith.

3. It stays the way it is because no matter how poor the quality, the games still sell incredibly well.

The game crashed multiple times when I played it. Looking back I wonder how many of those moments were glitches like this. I always I assumed it was just the game randomly failing.
