If you're craving a Nintendogs-style fix on Switch, Little Friends: Dogs & Cats could well end up being the perfect way to fill that void. Luckily for those who do fall into that very group, pre-orders have now gone live.
Doing what Nintendon't (or should we say, haven't done yet), this game aims to bring that classic pet simulation formula to Switch for the first time. A press release tells us that it's only releasing physically in North America, but we've spotted it on both Amazon.com and Amazon UK for $49.99 and £34.99 respectively.
We've also been treated to a new trailer (above) featuring an actual, real-life doggo. It licks a Switch console and tries to get in on the action by hitting a Joy-Con, but there's also some gameplay in there for anyone who can't be persuaded by a cute dog alone.

Little Friends doin what Nintendo(g)nt
Gawd better not let my kid see this ha ha....as I know I’ll get addicted too
Yes I must get this game even if I die.
If this gets any particularly bit close to Nintendogs levels of quality I might actually get this. Not convinced yet.
I'm not interested but it would be good to get a game for my daughter. Got that My Riding Champion and I think it was fun at first, but she got bored of it very quickly. I hope this game doesn't do the same...
@Anti-Matter This one's got your name all over it.
I am still surprised somebody beat Nintendo to this (expecting an E3 announcement now).
This honestly doesn't look that bad, though I am waiting for an official Nintendo licensed Nintendogs game. I'm one of those people that never got around to even trying one of the Nintendogs series.
@LavaTwilight If she likes horse riding games, but perhaps with a little more content and challenge to them, you might wanna look into the Whisper/Windstorm games. They're basically a mix of My Riding Champion and an adventure game.
If I remember correctly, they're based on a book series, and there's two in the eShop right now, one of which is even based upon a movie, made from one of the books. There's gameplay trailers, so you could check them out first, to see if it might be something that would appeal to her.
@Racthet916
Ah, yes of course!
It looks good from the trailer and I like how you can use both the touch screen and joy cons. Wonder how good it will be though.
That stock music though
@ThanosReXXX thanks I'll be sure to do that. She likes any animals really, but still not so much choice. Shame she missed out on the DS era.
I’d rather have an official Nintendogs, but if it doesn’t happen I’ll go with this or just keep using my 3DS.
This needs a review.
But... I have a real dog.
I tried the demo and quality-wise, it simply cannot match even the original Nintendogs on DS from 2005. And don't get me started on the animals themselves. Up close, they are absolutely hideous (and very poorly animated), which was when I knew to keep my distance. Notice how the promotional footage shies away from showing too much of the animals in motion.
I'll wait for Nintendo to produce their own.
They don’t look real enough, especially the cats.
Paris Hilton’s gonna be loving this
Play with the real dog, damn it.
Poor thing has to watch you throw a frisbee for a virtual dog while it gets no exercise.
Don't buy this game, it's not Nintendog. This game is trash, I played it a month ago. I deleted it after an hour.
@LavaTwilight You're welcome.
