Manticore: Galaxy on Fire was supposed to launch on the Switch last week, but was pulled at the last minute.
Manticore's lead designer Patrick Imbusch has issued a statement on the delay, explaining why it didn't make it to the eShop as expected:
It seems most of you have noticed that we posted a message about the last minute delay on the Switch’s news channel and a couple of sites picked it up as well. If you haven’t read it yet, here it is:
“Dear fans and players, Deep Silver is sorry to inform you that the release of Manticore – Galaxy On Fire on the Nintendo eShop has been delayed. Right now, we’re working hard to bring the best-possible sci-fi gaming experience to your Nintendo Switch.
We will be updating you with more details as well as the new release date in the coming days. If you pre-ordered the game, please note that your purchase is still valid and you will be able to access the game as soon as it’s released.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.”
I can’t give you a lot more details at this point, but you can probably imagine it’s a very unfortunate situation for everyone involved, as we were just excited as you to see reviews, discussions and especially you guys getting your hands on it today. We didn’t make that decision lightly, but it had to be done due to an unexpected issue that basically occurred at the very last minute and despite our best efforts couldn’t be fixed in time.
We’re working very closely with Nintendo to keep you updated and people who pre-ordered will receive a separate message by Nintendo soon. We will announce a new release date in just a few days and while it’s not 100% set in stone yet, you can be sure it’s not going to take months but only a few weeks till the game (finally) launches.
Again, thanks for your understanding, we appreciate it a lot.
Naturally, those who paid for the pre-load the game may wish to spend their cash elsewhere, so Nintendo has sent out emails offering refunds:
The reason you are receiving this email is that you were identified as having pre-purchased the Manticore – Galaxy on Fire game for Nintendo Switch. Although the game was set to be released on 3/22/18, we’re sorry to report that the release is being delayed. We are unable to provide its new release date, but assure you that the developer and Nintendo are working hard to release it as soon as possible.
We hope you are willing to wait to enjoy this great game; however, if you wish to cancel your pre-purchase and have your funds returned to your Nintendo Switch eShop account, please contact Nintendo Consumer Service at 1-800-255-3700. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Were you hoping to play this last week? Will you be holding out for the new release date or asking for a refund? Let us know with a comment.

Way better to miss the release date and fix major issues than to release a buggy mess IMO. Seems like the lesser evil.
Yea was really looking forward to it and had it pre-ordered.
In 2 minds really - apparently the rumoured bug isnt until a way into it, so could they have released it and worked on a patch so we could still play some of it on launch? Or would that have generated a worse press because they released a buggy game?
I've kept my pre-order and just hope it gets suited pretty soon. Taunting me sitting pre-loaded on my Switch UI!
If I'm not mistaken this is the GoF guys big entrance into console gaming If so it's the right call to get it "right" the first time. sucks that I have to wait but I understand.
Please release a physical version
Good call Deep Silver. I have very little respect for folk who release broken product on to the market.
I am definitely eager to play this one. What a stressful time it must be for developers between the announcement of the release date and the actual release. Nail biter.....
I believe it will be worth the wait. very nice the way they handled this situation, most companies would just release the game as it was and "patch it at later date".
Looking forward to this will hold on till its released,
This is another case where a pretty good looking mobile game is making it to Switch.
But are we actually getting the latest version?
It seems that way, since the name "Manticore" is a subtitle for a version of Galaxy on Fire 3, but it's really hard to tell sometimes
I'd say well handled, and despite being bummed, I'm ok with this. Also, it'll be a nice surprise when my preorder finally updates and is playable. I have plenty to tide me over.
Is this the same Deep Silver that created Dead Island? That was the buggiest mess I had ever played on day one ever and swore I would never get one of their games on the first day ever again. Approach their games with caution folks.
At least they acted ethically and are fixing whatever needs to be done. Not like 2K games, who love shipping broken games. I guess thats acceptable due to brand name and "WWE" and "NBA".
@Pod not sure if it latest version and not that concerned to be honest. This isn't a straight mobile port missing micro transactions
1.) Full premium experience without any sign of micro transactions, focusing on the narrative driven story campaign
2.) Challenging missions laid out across a story campaign that’s divided into 3 Acts
3.) Exclusive new Game content added with Act 3: 6 additional locations, 5 story missions and 3 “distraction” missions
4.) Completely reworked upgrade system that’s tied to your story progression
5.) 1080p/60 fps docked, 720p/60fps handheld mode, which looks and plays rad
6.) More open game structure, meaning you can jump from one location to another via wormholes, access the galaxy map during gameplay, fly to the Manticore (your mothership) to change equipment etc.
7.) Seamless transition to exploration mode after you’ve beaten a mission in that location
8.) Intuitive User Interface purpose built for the Nintendo Switch including in-game HUD, navigation in the hangar, galaxy map, mission overview, player profile etc.
9.) Reworked controls that work naturally with the Joy-Cons/Pro Controller
10.) Utilisation of Switch-specific features like HD rumble and accelerometer
11.) 3 different difficulty levels selectable in the main menu and anytime during gameplay
12.) Capture and share cool screenshots via the Switch’s capture function
13.) Additional options like active/passive auto alignment of your ship and aim assist
@kobashi100
Well! That all sounds lovely.
While I usually mention boxed releases as the vinyl of video games, console releases of Mobile games in general are quickly becomeing the DVD-box-set of video games.
Blimey, I remember playing Galaxy on Fire 2 on my 1st gen iPad back in the day. Glad to hear the devs had enough success to bring it to a more substantial platform.
"Manticore's lead designer Patrick Imbusch has issued a statement on the delay, explaining why it didn't make it to the eShop" Umm where? I just seen an apology, not what got broken and needed to be fixed before release.
Also is this download only or will there be a physical release planned later? I loved the GOF2 game on my Android tablet.
I'm in agreement with Alex up above. The original couple games were astounding amongst a sea of crap back when GOF1 (and 2) came out. I may have played the original on an iPad2 I once had.
I was disappointed when I heard the news- already had and have it pre-purchased- but I can wait. I have to give the devs some serious respect for delaying it if there was a genuine issue with the game. I know that can't be an easy call to make and I want to show my support to devs with the integrity to make the tough decisions like that.
@OldMcGroin Dead Island was developed by Techland. Deep Silver only published it and holds the rights to the name.
@SmaggTheSmug Ah, it's all coming back to me now, cheers for that! 🖒
I'm disappointed it was delayed to be honest but I'd rather have a 100% complete working game than a game that I couldn't Complete because of a bug 👌
Pretty bad to wait until the last minute like they did, but sometimes things happen. It wouldn't surprise me if someone got fired for this.
No problem. I will wait.
@tanookisuit My guess is that the reason they aren't telling us what exactly is broken, is because it may have been caused by the 5.0 Switch update. Saying that the update broke the game makes both Nintendo, and the Developer look bad. Better to just say they are fixing the issue, than telling us the nitty gritty about what exactly happened. I applaud them for delaying the game. Most developers would have pushed it out anyway, and "fixed it later".
I would love it if they packaged it with Gof and Gof2 as a bonus. I played both of those for hours but they no longer work with the latest iOS versions.
