That was a GREAT game. It gets a lot of hate, but people are just butthurt it wasn't identical to the first two. Had the best story in the whole Mario franchise, and the platforming/RPG elements went really well together. I think SPM should get a direct sequel; continuing the story (somehow returning characters who seem to be gone, explaining it slowly the way the events of the first one did) and it would be MUCH better than another NSMB'd, barebones, save-the-princess-and-that's-it excuse of an RPG like Sticker Star was. I agree we should bring the Paper Mario series back to its roots, but a SPM sequel would be pretty nice as well. Anything to wash that filthy taste out of our mouths...

The gameplay was awful, I rather not have another one like it.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Nobody's "butthurt it wasn't identical to the first two".

People hated it because it sucked.

That is all.

I liked the story and the greater emphasis on platforming...but it didn't seem like the Paper Mario formula fit into the changes.

IT DID NOT SUCK. Turn-based gameplay isn't the ONLY thing that makes an RPG good. It's not REQUIRED, real-time combat worked well. I admit the bosses were a bit too easy, but how could you say it was a terrible game for something that small? It still has the charm of the Paper Mario series, like the original enemies (Spanias, Clefts, etc) and an original story, in fact I played through it so many times I can't even count. SPM was far from bad. It had tons of unique worlds, stuff to do, like TWO Pits of 100 Trials, and other things from the first two such as recipes. I'm getting real tired of the people hating on SPM. People like you are the reason we got the abomination that was Sticker Star. Because Nintendo heard everyone complain about SPM and thought "Well then! After all that effort we put in to making a unique installment and actually changing things up a bit, plus making the best story in the whole Mario franchise, we got complaints? I guess turn-based battles is ALL that matters to the fans. OK, team, bring back turn-based battles, and dump everything else, since that's all anyone cares about."

I'm sorry, but the gameplay was NOT bad. It felt really satisfying to level up on a Muth by shaking the Wiimote to get stylish. Peach and Bowser were actually playable in THE MAIN STORY. Luigi was both playable AND a boss! That game was amazing in so many ways, I thought maybe some FANS of it would click here rather than the "if-its-not-100%-turn-based-we-hate-it" drones. I will defend a good game people!

@LordFawful: Which is ironic because most of us hated Sticker Star even more. Other problems that I've seen is that there is far too much dialogue in the game and the lack of partners that made the previous two so unique.

Super Paper Mario & Sticker Star were great games in their own likeness, but as Paper Mario games, not so much. I think the next Paper Mario game that'll inevitably be for Wii U should be an RPG once again, similar to Thousand-Year Door.

There is still partners, they just have far less dialogue and are small flying things. Also Peach, Bowser and Luigi make up for it by having their own specific dialogue for scenes. And the dialogue IMO is one of the best parts of the game! Such great quotes, I still remember Mr. L's "Not a funny joke, Dimentio, if I wanted to laugh, your face is inspiration enough"

I liked Super Paper Mario for this scene alone

The game was more puzzle oriented, than Thousand Year Door. That was nice.
I wouldn't mind if there were more Super Paper Marios, because its not as bad as the internet wants to think. As turn based RPG has been done time and time again.

SPM's story just went on and on and on and on it felt more like reading a book than playing a game half the time, even the owl in OoT didn't go on half as much as they do in SPM, as for the platforming it just didn't feel right to me especially the 2D/3D switching it looked neat in the trailers, but actually didn't flow very well together when playing imo, add to that the annoying fetch quests between levels and SPM made for a ;pretty big let down to me.

I'm actually playing through Super Paper Mario now. It's my first Paper Mario, so I can't compare with the others, but I absolutely love it. The story is great and funny, the game is gorgeous and artsy, it feels like a comic book. The blend of platforming with RPG elements was the perfect fit, in my opinion. Pays homage to a lot of Super Mario Bros. stuff and adds enough depth. The 2D to 3D flipping is cool, this is a game so unique in concept no one would dare make it if not Nintendo.
I have played Super Mario RPG for the SNES, though. I understand the previous Paper Mario were more traditional RPGs like this title and some people would prefer it, but Super Paper Mario is great as it is.

I would totally get it if it were to happen. I loved almost everything about Super Paper Mario, it was my favorite Wii game I have ever owned! The story, humor, music, game play loved every bit of it. Especially the song "Soft Light" one of the best songs I have ever heard from a video game. And the puzzles were great as well. And lastly, who could ever forget my favorite character of the game: Mr. L!

I think we need a main series (64, Thousand-Year Door) sequel first.

Sticker star was NOT great in its own way. I have lists in a journal about how much it SUCKED.

I loved the game Super Paper Mario! It's my childhood favourite! I loved the story, gameplay, everything! I really liked the plot and the storyline to the game. It was very emotional, I'd love a sequel that continues with the story!

I agree TC. Super Paper Mario is a fantastic game. Best writing in the series, and if you ask me, action gameplay>>>>turn based gameplay. The Action-Platformer RPG is a rare breed, and a Super Paper Mario sequel would certainly fill the niche.

Here's the thing, we already have a turn-based Mario RPG series in the form of Mario & Luigi. The battle system is different true, but if you ask me, differences in turn based battle systems seem to leave less of an impression of than differences in action battle systems.
