Topic: Recovering Wii Message Board archive - corrupted SD card

Hello,
I need help from someone who knows about recovering corrupted SD card data for the Wii.
Namely the archived Wii Message Board posts and my Brawl matches recordings.

Longer explanation:

  • As you may perhaps know, the Wii Message Board's posts automatically get saved (archived) to the SD card every now and then, whenever they pile up.
  • I make a LOT of Wii Message Board posts, I post a lot of daily messages from Animal Crossing City Folk, and from the Photo Channel. These are all irreplaceable memories to me and everyone who plays on the console for the past almost two years.
  • My SD card which archives all this data got corrupted. PC gives only option to "format" the card, and Wii says "the device inserted in the sd card slot cannot be used".
  • however, I can see the usual folder structure on the SD card when I use the recovery software though. (printscreen of recovered folder structure can be seen here: http://s30.postimg.org/y3evj65y9/Screenshot.jpg )
  • additional info: I don't have and never had softmodded my console, and would like to keep it that way.

My questions:

  • if I simply copy that recovered folder structure from the PC to the blank, brand new SD card, will the Wii console read the Message Board messages back again normally from this newly cloned SD card?
  • also, will my Brawl matches be accessible again?
  • in short, is it as simple as copy & pasting the folders & files to the sd card?
  • most importantly: can I mess up my console if I insert such a cloned card into the console?

More info about Message Board folder structure can be found here: http://forum.wiibrew.org/read.php?21,67230,67287

Thank you for reading! And helping! I really do need help with this!

Since you can still see those folders on your PC, try this:

0. Make sure you didn't format the SD card. If you did, this won't do any good.

1. Get ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) here - It's FREE: http://www.z-a-recovery.com/download.htm

2. Install it.

3. Insert the faulty SD card into your PC's card reader.

4. Launch ZAR (ideally, make sure you turn off the internet connection and any antivirus software, so there is nothing trying to mess with the process)

5. Select the Image Recovery (Free) option.

6. ZAR will search for devices that are installed on your PC. Direct it toward the SD card.

7. Click NEXT so that ZAR starts analyzing your SD card.

8. When ZAR is finished, it will show you all the files that it has recovered from the card.

9. Move everything to a folder on your PC.

10. If you got (almost) everything transferred from the card to your PC, you can now format it.

If that doesn't work, then try some other SD card recovery software.

Either way, when you're ready to format the card, use this: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

Good luck.

Thank you for answering.
The questions still remain - once I format the SD card (or simply buy a new one), can I simply copy & paste recovered folders form PC to the card and expect that the Wii will read Wii Message Board posts and Brawl matches recordings normally?
