Here's a Gamecube prototype, it is noticeably bigger, along with a larger thumbstick and longer handles.
Now here it is against the final controller
^There's the Wii U pro controller. Unlike both the prototype and final Gamecube controllers it lacks analog triggers. It does however have two bumpers instead of the Gamecube's one. The analog sticks are also no longer restricted to an octagon and are now clickable.
My ideal Gamecube controller is a lot like the prototype Gamecube controller, except with a larger d-pad, clicable and no longer octagonal Wii U control sticks, and 2 Z-bumpers (ZL and ZR) instead of the one on the gamecube controller, and also a +(start) and -(select), home, and Nintendo Network buttons. Maybe make the buttons traditional and not different sizes like on the Gamecube controller as well and the triggers look more like traditional triggers, but still large and with the same functionality.
Next-gen controller as in what controller we want for the next Wii?
I still want the main controller to have something extra, like the Gamepad and Wii mote have.
Hmm.. as for a more classical controller also as an option..
Though I wouldn't know if it'd be good before actually trying it, I'd really like a kind of Wii U pro controller with the A,B,Y, and X buttons and placement of said buttons that the GC controller has. I really love the GC conroller, minus the extremely tiny D-Pad and the C-stick.
And analogue triggers I guess? People seem to want those, though I've never seen a use for them outside of Super Mario Sunshine.
YES!!! but seriously, I want Nintendo's next system to be the next step ofMotion Control but still compatible with the Wii U GamePad, Nintendo could go back and forth with motion and tablet evolving each and keeping backwards compatible possible without too much work
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The perfect controller is the gamecube controller.
Almost.
However:
-too small
-restricted octagon control stick movements
-tiny d-pad
-tiny c-stick
-lack of clickable sticks and a second bumper (3 less buttons than PS2/Xbox)
If they want to do something right, for once that is.

The GamePad is actually better than the DualShock 4, in most cases.
GamePad wins:
Full touch screen vs. touchpad
NFC vs. no NFC
Camera vs. no camera
9-axis vs. 6-axis
IR blaster vs. no IR blaster
Stereo vs. mono
Possibly extended capability vs. as-is
DS4 wins:
Smaller vs. bigger
Less expensive vs. more expensive
Tied:
Headphone jack
The Move capability in the DS4, is basically what the GamePad can do with 9-axis, except it isn't restricted to the camera like the DS4. The DS4 is pretty much a Wii remote in the shape of a regular controller, so it would actually be more fair to compare the DS4 to the Wii remote or Move, but not the GamePad.

More features doesn't make it better. Also that is not a DS4, which is far superior to that DS1-3 junk with a touchpad attached.
It kind of does. If this comes down to preference, than no one can say which is better. So, to be fair, I gave a list of what I think is better about the GamePad.
There's more, and more advanced hardware in the GamePad that technically makes the PS Eye moot, besides areas where it would compare with the Xbox One(Kinect).
EDIT: BTW, I know that isn't the final DS4.
I think the GamePad is better for what it is, but not what DS4 isn't.

so the Xbox "duke" is better than the GC controller? More buttons, 2 expansion slots, and clickable sticks. Okay...
That's not even what I said, and those features are different than what people expect, 2 gens later. Controllers don't need memory or runble packs anymore, which is what those were designed for all those years ago. Xbox One and PS4's controller aren't going to change what games they get. The GamePad can do that, and so much more, which is why it's important that devs utilize it. It's all on the devs.
GamePad, PS Vita, and Smartglass can have the same functions as the GamePad if devs really want it to, which again, is important that they utilize it, because the GamePad comes in the box, while other consoles require another purchase.
The only problem I have with the Pro Controller is that it's not that PC friendly. Kinda wish it would just pair with a PC and just work, I can't be bothered doing all of those crazy workarounds. Equally I think the PS4's controller is pretty damn nice and besides the D-Pad I'd say the same is true of the 360 controller. Everything else is not upto that sort of standard.
The Gamecube controller is nice but it's either not wireless or lacks rumble. Plus there's no clickable sticks and the second stick is pretty average for most things. Plus it's pretty proprietary with its connector so you can't really use it outside of its intended use without extra hardware. Valve's controller for Steam OS could throw a spanner in the works but I suspect it'll be only great for strategy games.
Oh, and KB + Mouse still wins against every alternative for basically every game.
The GamePad + Wii Pro combo all day. With Wiimote support. Not sure what else there is to talk about. Do miss those GameCube ports, though. Has there been a cooler hardware feature, ever?
