Nobody knew how fast HD was going to take over back in 2005. I believe Nintendo stated that they didn't foresee HD becoming a standard so quickly which is one of the reasons it wasn't included in the Wii. Now I could have misread that or it might have just been a rumor, but I remember reading that somewhere.

That's true. 4K is still more expensive than HDTVs were when those first came out, from what I can tell, though... My sister bought a 65" inch plasma when they were still pretty new, and that thing was $3000 about. Now 4K is double around that price, years later.
