Topic: Who will win the cross-play battle Sony's PS3/Vita or Nintendo's Wii U/3dsXL

I dont know bout that, sonys all stars game looks quite good, it has cross play, and even a deal which allows you to buy the game for 1 platform and get a copy for the other platform free of charge..

In sonys case it is, the vita version of all-stars does come for free if you buy the game for the ps3
It's part of their cross-buy program.

I think the bigger question is why would I want to play a console game on my portable or a portable game on my console? The games where I'd want the consoles to remember my save state are precisely the sort of games don't want to be similar on the portable and non-portable consoles. Plus the fact that Sony is giving out "free" copies of Vita games as a way to promote cross play while good is, if anything, a sign of how badly the vita is doing.

So really the "winner" will be the Wii U and 3DS but not because their cross play features will be better because they won't. They'll win because the Wii U has a semi-portable bundled with the system and because I don't really want to play the same games on both anyway. Give me epic on my TV and snacks in my hands.

@skywake TESTIFY! Sony giving away games isn't gonna make a difference and will hurt their business even more because in the end consumers will expect free stuff all the time which = no profit Vita is dead as roadkill in Australia so It also depends on what country you are from, US both will be equal, Japan 3DS/WiiU will be a winner by a landslide, Australia no one really cares, Europe probably equal again so it's a bit of a dumb battle for supremacy if you ask me.

I've got mixed emotions about the "crossplay mini-war".
One, the Vita's ability to bring your PS3 anywhere is pretty good
Two, Nintendo has skywake on their side.

The 3DS wont even be able to play half the Wii U games developed without butchering them on a technical level. The 3DS can barely handle Wii games (Rayman, remember?)

The Vita, meanwhile, is almost as powerful as the PS3 - Zen Pinball cross play is a wonderful thing.

Or any of the PSP or PSOne JRPGs - Final Fantasy I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX - all on the Vita, you realise?

im more of a sonic fan then a rpg fan and more of platformer and shooter fan then a rpg fan

Wow, using the example of the worst port to the 3DS so far for that point...sigh.
Handheld games and console games are best when they arent just ports of one other anyway - it's hardly detrimental to have a home console more powerful than a handheld.

For cross play to work, the two versions need to look pretty similar to one another, otherwise the experience is not seamless.

This isn't a criticism if either the 3DS or Wii U. They're simply not as compatible as the Vita and PS3.

I dont see why you would ever expect them to be, the PS3 and Vita are 5 years apart.

Well right now I'd say PS3 X Vita because they have footage of how it works and such, but there isnt even a little bit of info on how Wii U X 3DS works or at least I dont know! XD But knowing Nintendo they're going to do something very strange and unique that will just make me smile!

The WiiU controller basically cross plays with itself... Cross play is dumb anyways so everyone loses

Wait, the whole Rayman origins on 3DS thing hardly works as an example, since NSMBW was less powerful then NSMB2

I don't expect the 3ds to have many cross play game beyond monster hunter. I'm expecting some stuff like connecting the 3ds versions to the wii u versions.
