Topic: Is the Wii U The Best Console of All Time

Was the Wii U already the best console of all time at launch simply because of the fact if you turn the console into wii mode you can download and play pretty much all the best games of all time including the following.

The Super mario Bros series plus world series
Pretty much all the zelda games including orcarina of time
All the great megadrive sonics
and several hundred more games from the VC and wii disc back catalogue.
what do you guys think about this.

It simply has to be it also has great gba games too and possibly some great ds games all on one machine incredible. But if we go down the none download route then for the U.K the megadrive would be.

I love the Wii U. I think in 10 years time gamers will look back at the Wii U and think it a must have console to have in your collection. The power of the console is less relevant when it becomes retro it's about what it did.

Yeah it is an awkward one because at present it is but in a few years time when the vc gets pulled obviously then it will be lucky to make the Top 10 sad really. The best console without downloads is possibly the Snes in the U.S and Japan but the Megadrive in Europe due to the fact that a lot of the greatest games on the Snes never got a Pal release until after the Snes.

I think right now, the Gamecube has a better library to play with than the Wii U does, so I'd say a Wii that can play Gamecube games would still be a better system. A few GBA games and some ports of 3rd party games that are better enjoyed on other platforms doesn't change that. Perhaps in a few years it will be better, though.

The PS3 phat is also a contender, what with PS1, PS2, and PS3 libraries to consider. Whole lot of gaming in that.

True I did consider that but when you can play nes,snes,n64,mastersystem,megadrive,neogeo etc.which yes can be plaged on origin wii but with the addition of ds n gba would say just sneaks it.

As much as I've enjoyed my WiiU, it would be a far better console had Nintendo incorporated the ability to play Wii games and downloads straight from the WiiU menu, not booting into Wii mode.
It's also missing a proper messaging system. On the Wii I could send links to web pages and send voice messages too, I can't do that from Miiverse.
Also, I can't send games as gifts from the eShop, the Wii had the ability to do that on the Wii shop.
Nintendo could have done a deal with the owners of the DVD licences, made an app and charge a small fee for people who want it.
The photo channel could be another sdownloadable app, aswell as an updated Show Mii channel.
And the lack of 3rd party support is a big dissapointment. We need new games aswell as what's being offered on the VC.

Well. Yes and No.
Like, the gamepad. Duckin awesome, I can turn on my TELEVISION with it. Library? alright, it has a list of games that will become classics. It just got started at the wrong time with a terrible release lineup. A Mariokart, Zelda or Animal Crossing on or near enough after release would've sealed it's future

I would say it's a top 10 contender but when i consider all my fav consoles such as the megadrive complete with a master system adapter the it can't be the best ever.

Agreed p Appleyard I have changed my minds if we scrap the downloads and the fact that the vc controller isn't as good as the master systems and megadrive 6 button then it annihilates the wii u shame it will be discontinued early next year tho just simply nintendo cut too many conkers the cheap skates in having such basic hardware the fact the 360 n ps3 has a more powerful cpu to run games better is embarrasing when you consider there is a 7 year gap between the consoles that's over a generation.

I think if I'm taking one home console to a deserted island it would be Wii U due to both virtual consoles accessible at present covering more system's top games than any single console of the past . I think that's what the OP is getting at

Yeah that's what I was getting at obviously if you just included wii u disc games then obviously the console is crop but I was including the back catalogue of the several hundred games you can play from past consoles through the Vc.

In that case, I'd rather have my computer.

I would say it's definitely my favorite home console. Between Virtual Console and Wii Mode, I can play a lot of great older games, and play the fantastic lineup of games the system already has. I personally prefer the 3DS if we include handhelds because I've always been more of a handheld gamer, but the Wii U is very, very close.
