Topic: Improving Wind Waker

First thread for me, but I havent seen it debated anywhere else so… so maybe here.

I was never completely satisfied with Wind Waker.

By that I mean there was a lot to like - for all of it's faults - it was still probably the best game I played in 2003. A worthy Zelda game, an ambitious and creative product, and still to this day utterly unique in gaming. At least from where I'm sitting.

(I played it again a couple of years ago, and my primary impression was it was the best looking game on Wii.)

But it was more that they didn't quite nail it, and deliver on the huge ambition and ideas. I guess the premise of this post is that there were actual things that could be identified by even fans of the game and 'fixed' given the opportunity, unrushed. Say, if Nintendo were remaking the game. Which they have.

A great opportunity.

So off the top of my head, some obvious upgrades/fixes to go along with the HD lick of paint. They would really turn this new HD release into an event for me, rather than a nice to have. I've smashed the hell out of Ni No Kuni. I don't think WWHD is going to blow me away in terms of visuals as it might once have done. But beyond good looks...

Challenge.
Give it some, in an action sense. I don't need to be crapping myself like in a Metroid game, but come on. I should be worried about getting hit in a Zelda game.

Dungeons.
The unfinished dungeons - probably the biggest hook. Please complete and include them Nintendo, it could make a huge difference. THE difference, in that it could impact so many other things like the Tri Force quest.

Landmass.
Related maybe, the scale of over-world 'land'. None of the islands felt full-size and busy.

There's probably more, but those are my headlines.

Surely. SURELY they'll do a proper job.

It's been 10 years. OOT 3D got a lot of love, although nothing really needed improving in that game.

I'm betting on there being additional content and - long shot - some kind of link to the new 3DS Zelda.

you should have no worries my friend its definitely awesome even if it is going to be the exact same game just improved graphics, i really cant see them making any big changes to the game.

put it on.

Let the guy who carves figurines take more than one photo off your hands at a time. I don't mind the time it takes him to carve them, but I do mind that he's only ever working on one at a time. That means if I have three photos for him I have to keep leaving, playing the song to skip time, and popping back in. I'd rather just give him all three photos and then go off and do something fun.

That's actually the reason why I never completed the figurine set. I pretty much literally said, "Screw this".

Anyways. I'm sure they'll be adding more than just a new paint job. The cut dungeons and story seem likely to make it into the game.
It's pretty much guaranteed that Tingle will be playable on a 3DS or the GamePad while player one uses the Pro controller, too.

Maybe they could add more to the "second quest" thing after beating the game, they could even do a Master Quest for Wind Waker. Enemies hit harder, dungeons rearranged, that sort of thing.

To be honest, I'm not sure how viable that'd be. After all, Wind Waker didn't have a master quest already made like Ocarina of Time did, and hence making one would take more effort than just adding some new areas (since you'd have to come up with new puzzles and enemy combos/room designs for every dungeon in the game).

They could've been developing it this whole time, and just now announcing the game, you never know. xD

Eh, the games was still fun though...even if it was a bit easy. I'm at least hoping the second quest they'll add extra damage for enemies.

I would love to see some more inhabited islands like Windfall. With places to explore and sidequests available etc

A great first thread/topic for the OP.

I guess it's been a long time since I revisited this game in its entirety; its mostly because I burn out too quickly, on the sailing and whatnot. The rewards for diverting from the path are modest, extra hearts are unnecessary (a difficulty quibble, as others have alluded to), and while the world is delightful I have combed it over thoroughly.

Lots to expand on and embellish though, in fact I'm hoping this game will sell me on Wii U!

I would love a master quest. Wind Waker's biggest fault to me is that it was too easy. Added dungeons (like the ones that were cut) would obviously be great too.

What this guy said. I absolutely LOVE WW, but it was too easy.

Zelda is the best game series in history.

sinanziric

I've played Ocarina of Time, Twilight princess and Skyward Sword but I never played Wind Waker, I hope it will be good xD

Skyward Sword is my favorite atm. I wish they release HD version. Masterpiece.
