Topic: How the WiiU Account would work in this situation?

Hi!

I'm so ignorant on this that I might even struggle to ask my question, but here goes. I am attempting to purchase a used WiiU from someone. They are claiming to have a couple of games already downloaded onto it. If I am to purchase this WiiU, will I be able to create an account to purchase new games on, and still have access to the one the seller has on the system already?

I've been out of the Nintendo game for a while and have no idea where they stand with their digital accounts. I know on PS3, PS4, if I purchased a used system and created a new account, I would not have access to games purchased by someone else, unless I was signed in as them.

Thanks, hope this makes sense!

To use the games they have on there you have to keep the account they have. Deleting their account and making a new one will delete the games/deem them inaccessible. You can probably use their account if you delete anything connected to the WiiU that isn't yours and replace it with your own. You can redesign the main Mii to be your own and it only hurts a couple games data (like Nintendoland and Smash data) and I think you should mostly have erased any impression it's a used account.
I would comb through the settings to make sure they can't access it again somehow (like from another WiiU or 3DS) to view any credit information in the eShop you may enter.
The only problem would be is if they're still using that account on another system, then you'd be sharing with them and that would be conflicting for you both I'm sure.

@Dankykong:

Hey DankyKong, love the name and thanks for the quick response. I'm sure I could take over the account and would of course remove any personal information, redesign the mii, etc...

I just found info that states that the email could be changed, but not the gamer tag. However, it would appear that these games were pre-loaded onto the system at purchase, ie: it was the Super Mario World 3D bundle. So....

Now I just need to know if these preloaded games would still be accessible to me, should I create an account on the system. I am asking the seller now if they ever created any type of account on the system.

Sorry, I'm sort of dumb about all of this. Haven't been a Nintendo fan since the Wii dropped off but I'm getting back into it!

Thanks for the assist!

Unfortunately, I'm 99% sure, you would not be able to change the Nintendo Network ID name, so mine is N64King, if you bought my WiiU and used my account, you'd be stuck being N64king, but you can change the name associated with it so you wouldn't be Alex - N64king. You could be "Joe - N64king." or whatever lol, which appears on things like the Miiverse. You can change the email, or anything else they ask for except the NNID, and country, and maybe state...
I don't think you can change your state/region on the 3DS for some reason, this might be the same.

There might be a couple other things associated with taking over an account that might be wonky though, but there's no reason why it shouldn't work if you can disconnect any personal information of theirs and make sure they can't access your freshly input information, because essentially all Nintendo is thinking, is that whoever owns the account changed some data for whatever reason.

Hey DankyKang,

Thanks again. I had to edit the info in my question.

The system appears to have these games pre-loaded on it, would those games link to the account that is set up, or would they still be accessible to me once I create my own account?

Thanks so much, and yes, I can confirm that usernames cannot be changed - based on what nintendo is telling me

@js_sol: Same thing with the preloaded Mario 3D World bundle, the game and the ID are linked, so if you delete the NNID that was associated with the game when it was originally owned, it will not be accessible again. Download codes are one use only as well. The code cannot be reused to redownload it.

This is very easy:

First of all, you must not delete the old account.

Then you can just create a new Nintendo Network ID and order new purchases with this new account. You can play all games by choosing your new Mii/Account and so on.

You don't need to alter or change the old Mii/Account. Just don't delete it and and then handle everything with your own and new account.

Make sure that you change the password and everything too and that this Wii U owner doesn't have a 3DS tied to the account as they both share the balance and can get messy.

I would call Nintendo and ask them instead of trusting strangers on the internet. I thought pre-installed games were always associated with the hardware as opposed to game systems that come with a download code.

I bought a preowned Wii U from Gamestop to get the Starfox Zero and Star Fox Guard physical deluxe games, and when my fiance and I got home we went through the setup of the Wii U and when we got to the main screen we were greeted by full versions of Super Mario 3d World and Nintendoland.

This was a fresh setup where I set up my own mii and NNID and everything. I was suprised. So I think the games pre-installed could just be tied to the system.

And we are very happy with the Wii U as we should have bought one instead of 2 PS4S lol.
