Can you play Mario kart 8 without gamepad? Gamepad doesn't switch on so can do nothing with it. Will I still be able to play using wii u controllers but with no access to gamepad at all?

And can you buy new gamepad alone? Thanks.

My gamepad screen is scratched spectacularly and has a ton of dings where the virtual keyboard keys appear on-screen since my Wii U is my main internet browser. The thing still works great, however I have to have it plugged in at all times because the battery dies less than 5 minutes after I remove the gamepad from its charging cradle...

I'll get to it in a while when I can access my PC. Not doing this by phone.

Just think of the poor OP seeing that they'd got over 100 replies to their thread but no actual answers...

@TM1 I've not tried it, but I'm fairly sure you will be able to play Mario Kart 8 without any input from the gamepad.

As for buying standalone gamepads, I'm not aware of any retailers that sell them, at least not outside of Japan. Best bet would be to scour ebay for a used one.

You don't need the gamepad. I can pick up a pro controller, press the power button, and boot up and play Mario Kart with out ever touching the gamepad.

You can buy a new one alone but it will have to be on something like ebay or Amazon. Plus it will cost you a fortune. I got a refurbished one and it costed me like 175 dollars or something ridiculous like that. Don't have Nintendo fix your broken one either. That will cost you even more.
