Think about it this way people. I never bought a gamecube, so when I got my wii, I got the wii library AND the gamecube library to choose from even though I never owned a gamecube. Lets say someone here hasn't bought a wii, but gets a wii U, they can play both Wii U, AND wii games even though they never owned a wii. I think this outlines just how great BC is.

Backwards compatibility is one my favorite features of the Wii U. All of the Wii controllers can be used for the Wii U and the games are in HD. I really like playing Other M and Prime 3 even to this day and so on, so forth. I really despise the lacking of backwards compatibility that the Xbox One has, because there is a number of great 360 games on there. I personally think that backwards compatibility is amazing.

Can you tell me how to fix the resolution problem? When I play Wii games on my Wii U everything looks squished and its hard to read things.

This is exactly my situation with 3DS.

@Fusion14 My thoughts exactly. As a Pokémon player, this is pretty much the paradigm of the importance of BC. If you couldn't link with the older games, it would be all but impossible to catch them all. My friends can still play games like Brawl with GC controllers, which is the only thing preventing me from data transferring to my WiiU (2 Wii remotes, 2 GC controllers).

I am one of those people. I never bought a Wii, I always dismissed it as "waggle-****". After getting a WiiU, I'm only just discovering the library of games the Wii had to offer (and paying through my nose buying second hand copies of rare games!).

I think backwards compatibility is really important. I have tided myself over by buying a bunch of Wii games that I never had while I owned a Wii.

Mine too. I played GC games on the Wii and DS games on the 3DS, so for me it was very important.

Yes, backwards compatibility is important.

Why? Well let me explain it like this:

New consoles don't have a ton of games available right after launch. So by having backwards compatibility, you give people the chance to at least play some of their existing games on the new system while waiting for the new ones. As well as a reason for new players to buy the console prior to the 'killer apps' being released.

By not having backwards compatibility, you basically make the console not worth buying until the first major game or ten comes out. Or in the case of consoles which never got any 'killer apps', you basically reduce the thing to a 300 dollar doorstop.
