I think that Nintendo should allow you to buy credits to use on a free arcade system. You could download the virtual arcade machine, but you couldn't play it until you bought credits from the Wii Shop. (i.e. 100 credits for 500 Wii Points etc.)
This would be a good money-making gimmick for them.
@Pieforprez - So you get to download it for free, but you have to pay to play it? Scr*w that! They got enough money. Don't give them any ideas. (no offence.)
Money-making gimmicks sounds more like SQUARE ENIX/TAITO....
No reason for Nintendo to hold a monopoly. I think it's actually a great idea as a paid demo service which might be a way to get some more revenue to 3rd parties -- you could do the same for WiiWare as well. That would certainly go a long way towards selling people on big money titles like Plattchen or World of Goo who might be on the fence.
In fact it's so obvious I cannot see why Nintendo didn't do that from the start unless it's down to the owners of the VC stuff not being into that idea (they're unlikely to have liked game rentals back in the day as well)...
