Display problems while playing Virtual Console games
If you are experiencing display issues (dim, blank or half-blank screen, ghosted image, etc.) with a Virtual Console game while using the Component Video Cable, please read the following:
Some Virtual Console games default to displaying 240 lines of video. Some HD TV's are unable to display a signal with only 240 lines. Try the steps below to set the Wii to output 480 lines of video, which may solve the problem:
While on the Wii Channel Menu (main screen of the Wii), connect a Nunchuk to Wii Remote. Select the Virtual Console game from the Wii menu, then select "Start" to begin the game. When the game starts, press the Home button on the Wii Remote. (In many games, the music can be heard when the game starts.) Select "Operations Manual" from the Home menu. Press the Z + A + 2 Button simultaneously (the Z Button is on the Nunchuk). A sound will be heard if the button combination has been entered correctly. Close the Home menu. The game should now display correctly. Note: You will not have to do this the next time you play, as the Wii console will remember these settings. If the Virtual Console game is still not displaying properly, but all other games work fine, please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.
It sounds like this is the issue. If this doesn't work, check to see what cables you are using. Are you using the 5 pronged (component) cables people have posted pictures of, or the 3 pronged (red, white, yellow) cables with your TV. You should NOT be having this issue with the 3 pronged cables, since they can not output into 480p. Look in the Wii Settings as well and check to see if you're outputting in 480p or 480i. If you cannot select 480p, you are using the 3 pronged cables. If you CAN select 480p, you probably are using the component cables. Try setting the output at 480i if the trick above doesn't work.
Does your TV display the resolution of programs when you change the channel or change the input? Most do at the top of the screen. If you are using the 3 pronged cables, check and make sure the TV knows it's displaying at 480i.
If none of those things work, call Nintendo customer service number above.

What SNES and NES games are you trying to run by the way? The older VC releases like F-ZERO and Sonic 1 have issues when playing on a PAL HDTV. This is a fault with Nintendo who are too lazy to fix the issue.
There are two ways to fix the problem: 1 - Don't use the High Def Component Lead 2. Don't goad moderators as it's not a smart thing to do.
