Playing Earthbound or Sonic & Knuckles on a ROMs right now? I just want to tell you that your helping delay the release on the Virtual Console. I had an idea that will get more of our favortie games on the Virtual Console. Stop playing great games you want on ROMs if you want to see those classic games in their original form again legally. Also, tell Nintendo (Be reasonable) that you want to see these games on the Virtual Console. That way, Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe will realize that we actually want to play these games without having to resort to illegal downloads. While this may only work on games without licensing issues, those without major licensing issues (Earthbound licensing issues is not big enough to lose hope on), this tatic will work well.

And here's how to avoid seeing terrible games like Action 52 and Deadly Tower on the Virtual Console. This will require a lot of rule-breaking from us, but we'll have to download ROMs from those awful games and suffer through them, not to mention deal with legal issues from them and possibily even go to jail for it. However, if we don't start downloading illegal ROMs of terrible games, NOA or NOE will get the thought that everyone wants to play Action 52 or Super Pitfall and release them on the Virtual Console service and we'll be furious.

What makes you think that Nintendo tracks ROM downloads?

Is this serious? Nintendo has no idea if I am playing Mother 3 on emulator right now. No one does. I'm all alone. I could be doing anything.

Even if you are referring to the act of downloading the ROM and not the act of playing it (which doesn't seem to be what you're saying since you said we'd have to "suffer" through the bad ROMs), Nintendo doesn't have access to that data. They might see that it's available on some ROM site, but they don't know how many of us have downloaded these ROMs.

How does Nintendo know if we are playing roms of crappy games and not playing roms of good games, i don't see how this would work, however if we take Miyamoto hostage and refuse to release him untill they release their entire back catalogue on VC, then who will come up with genius ideas for games??

I think NOA is too stubborn for that. Perhaps we should grab our pitchforks and teach NOA a lesson?
I'm actually strangely satisfied now that I can play one of the greatest games ever made [Majora's Mask],well at least for now.

Sorry but I'm a little lost in here, you're saying that if Nintendo notices that people doesn't download a free ROM of some game to play it, they're gonna think that is because those people want to play the VC version of that game, sorry it just doesn't make sense, specially since I believe some of the most downloaded ROMs (Mario's, Sonic's, etc.) are already on VC.
Anyway, there are many more PC users than Wii owners, and a lot of them doesn't have nor care about the wii, they still, and will always download ROMs without thinking about VC releases, I don't believe a few Wii owners refusing to download ROMs will have an impact on the number of downloads on those emulation websites.

First of all, let's just say that in some bizarre alternate reality what you are saying is actually true. If Nintendo actually checked to see how many people were downloading certain ROMs, wouldn't they want to release the ROMs that people were downloading the most? More downloads = More $$$. If they saw that most of the people were downloading Action 52, I think that would be the game they would want to put up on the VC. We're gonna get good games and bad games in the future, there's no getting around that. It has nothing to do with ROM downloads. But if you wanna waste your time playing Action 52, go right ahead

i've been doing some thinking... by your logic, SSBFan1999 (by playing a ROM of a terrible game, we can prevent its release on the VC), I could sell you a rock -- not just any rock, either; this rock i am offering to sell you is a magic tiger-repelling rock. when i sell this rock to you, i will tell you that you will never be attacked by a tiger, ever. Since the probability of you being attacked by a tiger IRL is pretty freaking low (unless you live in Asia or like to jump into their cages at zoos or something), provided you go about the rest of your life not tempting fate, you will not be attacked by a tiger, and thus you will die believing that the rock I sold to you is indeed imbued with some kind of tiger-repelling powers.

in searching for and downloading this illegal ROM, you have figuratively bought a VC-game-release-repelling rock. if the game is truly that crappy, chances are it'll never be released for VC anyway (also, Nintendo does not seem to be interested in selling compilations of games in the form of individual releases, Super Mario All-Stars is a prime example), so by having downloaded and by playing it, even though Nintendo had no original plans to release it, you are tricking yourself into believing that whatever it is you're doing has worked. and if the game truly is never released for VC, you will continue to that whatever you did actually worked, even though it really didn't.

long story short, if you want to still go through with your plan, it's your call, but in reality it's a waste of time that could be better spent playing unreleased games that don't suck.

also, another thing to think about: many of the games that have been released for VC already have been circulated as ROMs on the internet for years already -- in some (NES, Atari, etc.) cases, perhaps even decades? If Nintendo truly followed the 'only games that aren't downloaded a lot will be released for VC' rule, we would never have gotten stuff like Super Mario RPG or Majora's Mask no matter how much we begged for it.
