@Meowpheel I'm not drowning in the wrong cup, I like my job and all potential future jobs thanks

FreeBSD is a fork of Linux. FreeBSD is what powers both PS3/PS4 and Switch. It's free and it's open source. So go ahead. Dump those OS files too.

Difference is, due to the license, which is BSD, people are allowed to modify the code base or base FreeBSD ONLY, and sadly, Switch and PS4, use only the code base, as a starting point, hence how they are vastly different. The thing is, it is based on FreeBSD, but doesn't use it enough.

This is the key difference. They based the OS on Linux, but have turned it into their own thing, hence the TOS mentioning you cant reverse engineer any of it.

Well then that's cool, they are protected by license.

It's just weird how you were totally considering until the os thing came about. It's a bit arbitrary that a game developer would be totally cool with roms and emulation, but absolutely against os modifications.

@Meowpheel I'm not totally cool with ROMs. Emulation we cant do anything about, at least not hardware wise, as its not using hardware to directly replicate the experience, its software telling other hardware how to run, in basic terms. Emulation itself is fine.

ROMs however....grey area. You can make the argument that you can back up games you own, but then we get into the new TOS introduced by Sony that says even physical games you only license and cant sell on without consent, so ROMs of any game are technically not owned, even if physically on cart or disc, just licensed to you with strict guidelines to not reproduce/replicate.

But at the same time, there hasn't been a legal precedent for it....yet. Just like Let's Plays have no legal precedent, but under license agreements backing up games as ROMs is...sketchy at best. Not illegal, but not a good look. Now downloading games you don't own? That's a black and white situation right there.

@DarthNocturnal In a way yeah. The OS base is free for anyone to use, as in FreeBSD, but once its modified its protected by license. At least that's what is implied.

An open source OS is like a free to play game. The source is free to do whatever with, see Linux, FreeBSD, Unix etc. but the end result as made by other companies, unless explicitly stated as such, is not.

That's what open source means. The source is fair game.

Ok my Part 2 of Yoshi's Island is gonna be fun to edit...prepare for a fail compilation already. xD

EDIT: Thread randomly died...>.>
Anyways, was this blur effect in the original version of EarthBound? (when you take damage from an enemy) First time I've seen it...never noticed it when I played it elsewhere. (including Wii U's VC)

So heard my local Gamestop was getting a shipment today at Noon. Went down there at 12:15 (my lunch) and they just sold out. This is getting f***in rediculous there is no way they could have been sold out in 15 unless some jackass bought all of them.

I love how Nintendo will go after ROM sites and fan made games but scalpers are ok in their book. F Nintendo.

@Tasuki The more you post here the more and more I realise you really lack patience for anything. Might be wise to work on that, you're worse than me

@BLP_Software Oh I have patience, I just don't like to be jerked around is all. If you are going to say you are going to do something then do it. They said they were going to make it so this doesn't end up like the NES Classic yet it is, and no point in pretending it isn't. I have not seen one anywhere at all except from scalpers online so how is it different.

And yes you can say it's a high demand item but this stuff always happens with Nintendo which means they don't know how to run their distribution channels. I was able to walk in on launch day on buy my PS4 with no preorder. Same with several high profile games. I saw stock everywhere for weeks after launch.

So yeah it's not a lack of patience as you say, just tired of getting screwed over by companies saying what people want to hear and not holding up their end.

I guess check it more often on Thursdays then, since it seems like that's when Gamestop gets more.

@Tasuki Problem is that there is no way to stop scalpers from having pre orders ready BEFORE they come out. I'm referring to bots that auto order for them.

I'd compare your PS4 example to the Switch, which you actually can get right now.

@TheLZdragon Yeah but the Switch isn't going anywhere it's not like they are going to stop it here in a few months like they will with the SNES Classic.

It's still a better situation than the NES classic. Stores are getting a more respectable amount of classics rather than the abysmal 2-5 per store.

They're still near impossible to find regardless...I still rarely see any Switches in store, even...

Problem is we're still feeling the effects of Nintendo's gross mishandling of the NES classic. Scalpers are easily killing the restocks.

@TheLZdragon I will say that I have notices that ebay prices are lower for the SNES then the NES. Most of them I see are maybe double what the SNES is going for in store where as at this time last year NES were 10 times.

I would say don't rely on the stock tracker sites. In April or whenever it was after Nintendo announced they were going to do one last restock of the NES Classic before discontinuing it, I went to Walmart to ask if they knew when/if it was going to occur, and the guy went to the back and got one for me even though none of the sites said they had one. Then for the SNES, I got to Gamestop about 25-30 minutes before they opened on launch day. I was 7th in line and they had received 17, but there were less than 17 of us even 10 minutes after they had opened. So even if may not seem like it, this one is definitely better than the NES was.
