Mandatory tutorials, achievements, and features that cost extra. Yep, that's today's games. Super Mario Bros. is from a lost era.
Nintendo does not do those things (at least, very rarely at best); however this does follow the modern trend, which is one of the reasons I stuck with Nintendo
I'm willing to argue that Brawl, Wii Sports Resort and Metroid Prime 3 had achievements. They not have called them that, but they were still basically achievements.
Also, Wii Sports Resort had that mandatory tutorial video.
I would never play Video games again if it was like that.
well..... maybe
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
Yes, yes. And if Mass Effect 2 were made back then it would have been a terribly written, turn based affair with your tiny little character waddling around a map screen getting into random battles every 5 seconds. And your party members would be mute pixels with no character.
If Uncharted 2 were made back then it would be a cookie cutter platformer with circles, birds and triangles attacking your character. Jumps would require pixel perfect landings, or you'd plummet into pits you've obviously jumped over for the 10,000th time.
People that see only the worst of modern day gaming and the best of olden gaming are the worst type of video game fans out there.

Seriously. I like retro gaming as much as the next guy but that sort of view really annoys me. (Not saying you can't prefer older games over newer ones)
Nintendo is wonderfully unique in that it focuses on an essential part of video games: fun.
While the 360 and PS3 get all the wonderfully praised games like Metal Gear Solid and Bioshock, Nintendo is sitting back and relaxing while developing the next game starring everyone's favorite plumber. They know what their fans like, and they're sticking to it.
