What are the five must have games for the GBC besides Pokemon and Zelda? Also, what are the best RPGs for the GBC?

In terms of other RPGs, I really only played Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, which IS awesome. I know some people really liked the Final Fantasy spinoff games that were on it.

Also beyond that, I'm a big of the Kirby Dreamland games. Especially 2, which was basically the Adventure sequel I always wanted and never realized existed. Tilt n Tumble was the coolest when I was younger, though I'm not sure how much it holds up.

Honestly, most of the RPGs for the Game Boy and Color were Japanese-only.

The only English-language RPGs I know of are the Final Fantasy Legend series, Final Fantasy Adventure / Mystic Quest (EU) / Seiken Densetu 1, Sword of Hope 1 & 2, Great Greed, the Pokemon series, Lufia: The Legend Returns (though I personally thought the series didn't live up to the SNES games), Revelations: The Demon Slayer, Azure Dreams, Dragon Warrior/Quest I&II and III, DW Monsters 1 and both 2s, Quest: Brain's Journey (not Quest: Fantasy Challenge, which is a (very bad?) ripoff of a Dig Dug-like game called Mr. Do!), Ninja Taro, Metal Walker, Zelda series.

In terms of Dragon Questing for the GBC, buy the game shown above - even if you've never played a Dragon Quest (Monsters) game before.
Dragon Warrior III is also one of the best traditional JRPG's the system ever got. Dragon Warrior I + II are more aged but worth playing if you're actually into the franchise, and Dragon Warrior Monsters while a great start to the franchise was improved upon in every possible way in the sequels.

@Geonjaha - I just bought Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey!

Final Fantasy Legends II is great. As is Final Fantasy Adventure.

Dragon Warrior III is among the best RPGs out there, IMO. Dragon Warrior I & II is good fun, too (especially the first game on the cart).

Dragon Warrior Monsters 1 is also good.

Sword of Hope II is pretty good, but also on VC.

I also liked Metal Walker, though it's not great.

I can't think of any other good RPGs, though.

My Top 5 GBC games are:

1. Dragon Warrior III
2. Dragon Warrior Monsters
3. Metroid II: The Return of Samus
4. Wario Land 3
5. Final Fantasy Legends II

Seeing as Dragon Warrior Monsters is your second favourite game for the system - I can promise you'll enjoy it a lot.

Now, Japan - about that remake and its localisation... >:3

I loved the GBC Metal Gear. There's a review here on NL.

I love wario land 3, but you don't have to get a GBC only game, because of the backwards compatibility.

I really liked the Monster Rancher games on it since Dragon Warrior was already covered

Battle.net - Dayman
Steam - RancidVomit86
PSN - RancidVomit86

Was there an actual Monster Rancher game for GBC?
The one I know of is a rebranded Solomon's Key game (though after I bought a JP copy called Solomon, realized it was still a Monster Rancher tie-in).

Lufia: The Legend Returns is quite good IMO. It incorporates the randomized dungeon concept from Lufia II's Ancient Cave into most regular dungeons and has a large cast of playable characters. It isn't quite as good as Lufia II but it still plays really well.

I find Dragon Quest III glorious. It's an enhanced remake so not only does it have better graphics but it has a lot of new content too. For everything else, I was content with regular GB RPGs (unless you count Pokemon). Final Fantasy Adventure and Final Fantasy Legend III are the two best there. I actually prefer Final Fantasy Legend II but the mechanics/gameplay in the first two Legends games are a little unusual. This is because the Legends games are actually part of the SaGa series in Japan and were just rebranded for their English releases. Legend III is very close to the FF series though with just a few SaGa mechanics incorporated into it.

Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...
