It's not fair to compare the N64 Castlevania's to the likes of Symphony of the night. I do admit some things about the N64 Castlevania's are less than perfect. I wouldn't say game breaking though. They didn't turn out so well but you can tell Konami at least tried to make them cool. The graphics were very impressive for the time. I've replayed through the N64 games a heck of alot more than the later PS2 games. For one thing the areas are alot more diverse. On the PS2 games every room looks the same. There's no creativity in the level designs. Maybe I'm easily satisfied but for some reason I still like the N64 games. They are different but not the travesty people make them out to be.

^Yeah, N64 Castlevanias mop the floor with Ps2 era games of the series. The identical corridors of Lament of Innocence were unbelievebaly boring, and the music was unmemorable. I really need to play SotN, though, somehow.

@ Faron
I'm pretty sure Symphony of the night is on the Playstation store. If you've got a PS3 that's one way of getting it.
I still have my original PS1 disc. It's still probably my absolute favorite next to Rondo of blood.

I wonder that so many people seem to have problems with the controls and the camera. Centering the camera with R and looking around with C-up works very well for me. Yesterday I've reached the Castle Center and I have no complaints with the controls or handling of the actions so far. I can not imagine how this could be done better without using a second analog-stick. I never died because the camera or the controls did not work but because I did not react quickly enough.

6 days later: I've completed the game with Reinhardt and now I know for sure: There is definitely a hard time limit in which the castle keep has to be reached to get the "good" ending. It has absolutely nothing to do with the use of sun/moon cards because although I have not used a single one of these cards I got the "bad" ending. Of course the use of these cards advances time even faster but that is not the point. There must be a certain number of days that you have time to reach the last level. If you take longer you have to fight Vincent, can only fight one of Draculas forms and afterwards get the "not so good" ending. Which I think is not so bad at all.
