Topic: Would YOU dump wads of cash on a current-gen Rock Band?

About a month ago, I got an email from Harmonixs' newsletter linking me to a survey asking the userbase (it's really only for Rock Band) about stuff like what instruments still work, and what they can do to satisfy and make money from the still somewhat active Rock Band community.
.
If you're asking me, RB3 is as good as it gets for rhythm games, but what do you all think, and would you spend another couple hundred dollars for a shiny new set of instruments for a new Rock Band game? What could Harmonix even add after pro instruments other than a new steady stream of songs and new instrument?

I've never spent any money on instrument devices for Rock Band/Guitar Hero/Whateverelse, but I know some people that would do so.
As for the possible improvements, I can actually see a few. The guitar controller could, for example split the note buttons in two halves for some sliiiightly more authentic guitar feeling, and more variety to different playstyles. But that's about all I can imagine controller-wise.

On the other hand, they could do a lot to improve the playlist. What made it into the last Rock Band title was, to keep it civil, some insultingly unrock-y pop bull. Instead, they should use the opportunity and get some lesser known bands as well as some game soundtracks onto the lists. And most importantly: involve japan, for crying out loud! They barely even begin to care about most of our music, and the few bands and songs they like would never suffice! Get OUTRAGE, Galneryus, Yousei Teikoku, Mucc, MintJam, Maximum the Hormone... I could go on for a few hours, but you get the point! International marketing! Japan would love Rock Band in Karaoke bars - but only if they like the songs!
The platform could also work as ameans of exposure for independent artists like Johnny Atma, Jack Fliegler, or Stemage! It's a huge effort, but it's one that speaks to a wide audience while focusing on actual rock.

Lastly, stop the constant game releases! That's what killed Guitar Hero, and the whole hype around it. Just make one game, and extend an independent playlist that works outside of the crude DLC systems on consoles (because it's really annoying to see an entire DLC slot dedicated to a single song), and maybe create your own account system to allow users to upload scores, share replays, and maybe even a small list of favourites!

Rock Band 3 had "Pro" instruments, including a guitar with like a hundred buttons and 6 strings.
.
While the DLC store was dominated by metal and bad 90's pop, when they added the Rock Band Network that allowed artists to put their own songs on the store, the service became a ton more diverse.
It's also worth noting that after Blitz, Harmonix broke off from Activision, so maybe it was them holding back music from not NA of Europe being on the store. It would make no sense for them, though to put a song with intense Japanese lyrics on-disc. It would alienate any casual players coming back to the series.
.
You could link your accounts on RB3 to Rockband.com to share scores and stuff, replays, assuming that the song publishers don't care (impossible) could be done on the Ones' and PS4s' livestreaming stuff.

Rock Band ranks among my favorite music games, but the idea of rebooting the franchise is one that probably isn't financially viable, since for many the idea of shelling out large sums of money for plastic instruments is a stupid one, and the pro controllers were notoriously expensive (for a crappy guitar and crappy keytar, it was reasonably priced but how many people were interested in that. And what was that bullcorn they called the pro drum controller?) We are in the era where the most financially viable rhythm games are ones like Just Dance. Sad, but true.

This is a signature.

Screw you.

If anything the DS<->Wii connectivity of the later Guitar Hero games deserves the GamePad treatment imo.

I liked the Arcade version of it that had a drum kit (Enough to have a go anyway when I came across one).

Maybe that is something else I don't know but it was pretty good.

Actually Harmonix broke off from Activision before Rock Band existed. As for why Rock Band stopped, chances are the main reason is the current generation of consoles (XB1/PS4/Wii U). Wii U is the only of those consoles which have any sort of backwards compatibility so finding some way to transfer the DLC to the current consoles would be very difficult. Dance Central Spotlight was only a rather recent reveal which includes a way to tackle the problem so maybe a new Rock Band will be announced on Friday. (they announced on Monday that a new game reveal is happening at 7pm pacific time)

That said I personally think if a new Rock Band happens, it won't come to Wii U.

You're right. I meant MTV Games, which is owned by evil evil Viacom.

If Harmonix even were to make a new version of Blitz or something, (even though the new Amplitude will probably outshine Blitz) I'd be happy.

As much as I love Rhythm Games, I don't think I'd buy it unlessit uses the Wii U's features in a good fashion.
Oh, and it has to be on Wii U.
