Topic: Worried About Sony?

Sony this gen just seemed like the "me too" company when it came to certain features. Microsoft and Nintendo would introduce or popularize an idea and THEN Sony would jump the bandwagon. Examples: Move, trophies, etc. I suppose it's not "copying" but it's a little bit of copying.

That's what mean though it's a bit of a babies game.

Wow, I knew Sony was in trouble but I had no idea it had gotten this bad.

I doubt anyone would be sad for long. Worst case scenario: you end up buying one of these to play REAL Smash Bros. Life goes on.

true ... if #sony were 2 go tits up i wouldn't bat an eyelid ... id just continue with my #microsoft / #nintendo systems ... same goes 4 #nintendo & #microsoft (if they disappeared) ... im not loyal 2 any brand.

I'm hoping they can pull it together for the PS4. Playstation All Stars seems a step in the right direction in terms of property management, but I'm still not as excited for Uncharted and God of War as I am for Legend of Dragoon and Jak and Daxter. To sell consoles, you need good exclusive content, which unless your console has some killer feature that no others have, like the PS2 with DVD playback, this means first party games. Sony doesn't even have a proper mascot! Nintendo has Mario, Microsoft has Master Chief, and Sony? Kratos... not the best example you're setting there guys. They need to create a console that costs less than $300 and be more powerful than the PS3 while still selling at a gain to make some of that money back. That's a tall order and I can see them either filling that and delivering a console that's really not that much better or repeating the mistakes of the PS3, PSVita, and PSP and making the PS4 the last one.

Games need to be the focus of a game console. Sony's got good properties, and good developers. It just needs to organize their time more wisely.

@Neoproteus Sony is starting to have Nathan Drake (and he would make a good mascot too I think) as Uncharted is starting to become their main series and on your Microsoft has master chief point, they could create a Halo vs. Gears of War with fable guest characters at best. sony has them sluaghtered on exclusives. Part of the reason they don't really have a mascot is because they don't have a big guy that got them popular and really helps keep them that way and mircosoft has an easy time partially because they don't have anybody else to be a mascot and their survival os largely reliant on halo too so that so shows how they compare to sony and nintendo on exclusives if they even are close enough to compare. (and fable isn't really a true exclusive anymore really with fable being on pc.)

Sackboy is the PlayStation mascot for everywhere but Japan.

so Toro is Sonys mascot... Sweet! I think Toro is my favorite Sony character, and PaRapa is second, maybe spike 3rd, the rest are meh IMO

Sony just needs to quit switching mascots.. Just stick with one character so that people actually have a chance to get attached to it!

There's rumors that Namco Bandai is buying out Atari.

On topic, I'd hate to see Sony drop out. 9th gen would be the earliest they'd drop out if they did, but I do wonder who would replace them for the "second" Japanese console to compete with Nintendo if they did.

Yeah if Sony dropped out, I'd like the VC support for Nintendo consoles and handhelds possibly, but who would compete with Nintendo in Japan for innovation? I don't think anyone's left? SE? Capcom? Konami?

The rest aren't meh, you just have this odd dislike for non-japanese gaming companies or studios.

Yeah since I saw Kevin Butler sack-boy I thought the same thing, as for the me liking Japanese characters only... What can I say? Nathan Drake? Kratos? That iNFAMOUS guy? None of them seem alive, I like colorful characters, sometimes I like the dreary looks, but it really depends on the game though

I'd love to see Sony bring back the Modnation characters back and use those as their Miis. I know there's Little Big Planet Karting now but there's references to Modnation in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. They could bring Modnation characters into LittleBigPlanet 3 along with the Sackboys and call the MN characters "action figures" to fit the LBP theme.

Well it depend those characters make sense for their worlds. I do agree that non of them have the it factor that Mario, Sonic, Ezio, or Master Chief have.

I do think so does have a few quite a few cool mascots.

I get the mentality from the internet that the PS VITA isn't a popular handheld, and it's disappointing to hear that. Hopefully, Sony will do something about it.
