I hope Namco Bandai buys Sony and then Square Enix can buy Namco Bandai. That way we can have the ultimate gaming company, Square Namco Sony Bandai Enix! They will than compete with Google Nintendo Sega to see who will save the world from EA Apple Disney.
There's rumors that Namco Bandai is buying out Atari.
On topic, I'd hate to see Sony drop out. 9th gen would be the earliest they'd drop out if they did, but I do wonder who would replace them for the "second" Japanese console to compete with Nintendo if they did.
Yeah if Sony dropped out, I'd like the VC support for Nintendo consoles and handhelds possibly, but who would compete with Nintendo in Japan for innovation? I don't think anyone's left? SE? Capcom? Konami?
There's probably a popular cell phone company in Japan that'd probably be interested enough to try and join the console market.

Chances are Sony would go under before they just dropped out of the console race. Last I checked, their Video Games devision was making them the most money.
I get the mentality from the internet that the PS VITA isn't a popular handheld, and it's disappointing to hear that. Hopefully, Sony will do something about it.
There's nothing Sony CAN do about it. They don't have enough first party studios to develop seriously for the Vita, so once again they're relying on the 3rd party developers to pick up the slack. The third party developers, however, are looking at this realistically and saying 'there's nothing already on the Vita to convince people to buy it, therefore it's not selling, therefore making a game for it is a waste of money because we won't get many customers.' It's the same to a lesser degree with the PS3. The only reason the PS1 sold well was because some developers needed better hardware to support their ambition than the N64 offered at the time. The only reason the PS2 sold well was because it included a DVD drive, and everyone and their dog was getting into DVDs. Neither console had serious competition, and the Wii and 360 offered just that.
I don't think any of US live in Japan, so that really doesn't apply. Here in the USA, we've got no idea who Toro even is, so no mascot here...

That's a really bad mascot... I wouldn't buy a game console with him for a mascot with kids even in the same house, let alone for them. Not to say it's a bad game, but a company mascot should be someone the entire family can relate to (mario), or at the very least a fantasy no one has much trouble stepping into(master chief). If you ask me, since Sony lost the rights to Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter should be the permanent mascot, but that would require that they actually continue making good Jak and Daxter games, which it doesn't look like is going to happen.

People buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, not because of the fact Mario is the mascot. At least I do anyways, maybe I'm just crazy. Millions of people bought a Wii just to play Wii Sports.
As for Halo, I'm only attacking the logic that somehow Master Chief is a family friendly mascot. It is an M rated game after all. Besides, as others have pointed out, Sockboy is the Sony mascot, not Kratos.

He's the the mascot for sony Japan Brah. America and Europe don't care about Toro.
I was talking iconic. Most people know master chief because of his desgin like with mario, superman, or mickey mouse. Same can't be said for Nate Drake or Kratos.

Looks like Sony filed an anti-used games patent. Wow. They must be determined to kill any chance for the PS4's success. If anyone here puts stock in Sony, now would be a good time to sell it.
To be honest, I'm pretty worried for Sony right now. Unless the PS4 turns out to be amazing, they've got an uphill battle in pretty much all of their devisions. And to be a forerunner for 4K is not a smart move in my opinion. I'd focus more on OLED, since it's cheaper yet gives off the color impression that 4K gives from the viewing distance one would actually view it at. 4K just doesn't make sense from the living room perspective.
Frankly, Sony seems to big for their own britches right now. I think if it'd be better if they cut off some of their devisions (especially lower-end TVs) and focus on what's actually making them money.
There is only one true Sony mascot!
As for PS4, if it launches with a $350-$400 price range as it is rumored to be, then I might consider grabbing it IF I can transfer my PS3 content and play PS3 games on it. I doubt there will be many exclusive games at launch, but if Killzone 4 shows up I'll grab it
