Dragon Quest is a very traditional JRPG and has tons of fans.
DQXII is supposed to become a big overhaul for the series and I fear it will alienate its long time fans. Let's hope that won't be the case.

Something tells me that's exactly what they want; a bold new direction for the series. I like dark and mature games but it feels like a very bizarre thing for Dragon Quest to do. Hope they don't do a Stranger of Paradise and make the hero a walking 2000s stereotype.
Apart from ones i own like eso,Neverwinter, tes, final fantasy,dq etc i gave up on rpgs unless its d&d etc like pen n paperbook/board game rpgs where a game can be 1 to 5 hours per week and an adventure can last 1 week,1 month,1 year or even 40 years if thats your jam
I've had to cool it on RPGs. It got to a point where it was just taking too much of my free time, but I'll make time for Atlus RPGs since they're my favorites.
I’m pretty much going to try to take next gen off. Because my backlog is so huge I feel like a hoarder. So I can focus on beating games and culling the backlog. I usually try to pair a RPG with an action or platforming game to keep me churning through the backlog. Plus I realized I no longer have time to play my favorite genres anymore, fighting and RTS games because RPGs eat my life.

My rpg gaming is split thusly tes/fallout and pen n paper d&d anything else requires more time than i have ... 200 hours in ff9 as a kid is fine as you get whole weekends with no school plus 10+ weeks off with no major responsiblity but as an adult you have work bills shoppimg etc so i tend to stick to shorter games tbh or stuff that has a loop style (racing, fighting etc)
There are too many games in basically every genre lately, but the fact that most RPGs are kinda long definitely makes it worse. RPGs are a big chunk of my backlog and it just keeps getting worse.
@FishyS Might be because of Fire Emblem Awakening. That games seems to have revived not just Fire Emblem, but the TRPG genre as a whole, I never saw much out of the genre until around that point.
@FishyS@Bolt_Strike I think the recent spike is a result of Fire Emblem Three Houses and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle seeing big success. The latter isn't a RPG but its mechanics are seeing a resurgence in TRPGs.
