I've noticed there's a lot of love for Indie games on Nintendo Life but no dedicated forum thread for Indie gaming in general. Since Indies are the primary reason I keep playing video games, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread myself. I want to be able to share my love for Indies - be it on Nintendo consoles or otherwise - with everyone that's interested in them.
I hope a couple of you share my love for them and join the discussion. If you know of a new announcement or want to share your experiences of a particular Indie title, please go ahead. And remember, the game you want to talk about doesn't necessarily have to be for a Nintendo console. All Indies are welcome!
I'll start with a recent discovery I made: Iconoclasts
Iconoclasts is a Metroidvania with gorgeous pixelart and has been entirely developed by 1 guy; Joakim "Konjak" Sandberg, over an 8 year period. Yes, even the soundtrack was done entirely by him.
The game is currently available on Steam, GOG, PS4 and PS Vita and will be released on Nintendo Switch later this year. It's an absolute blast with excellent gameplay and a deep story with lots of NPC's.
@darkfenrir
Thank you for your contribution!
Wizard of Legend looks very good indeed. The pixelart is gorgeous and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun.
I've personally never had the patience to get into a roguelike though. However, the setting of this game really entices me to try it out. Maybe this one will get me into roguelikes... who knows?
@SleepyOtus This one actually does makes me get interested in Rogue-likes! Although things like Moonlighter and Dead Cells coming this year also helps along.
I think if you want to dabble into roguelikes, you might want to look at this one first, since this one is like, you have a shop, then you go into dungeons to get items to sell at the shop!
So it's a very quick loop of going and selling and you really feel your progress far more than usual
@darkfenrir
Moonlighter looks incredibly deep. I'm always anxious when it comes to RPG elements for not understanding them somehow. It's silly, I know. o_O
I've got many on my wishlist! But I'll keep it short. Here's two that I'm looking forward to. First is Tunic (I believe it's also made by a single person!). It looks absolutely brilliant. 2D Zelda-style with deep combat, count me in!
Here's another one. I love cyberpunk! This is what I call high quality pixel art! Microsoft is the publisher, so it's an Xbox/PC exclusive.
@Octane
Thank you for your contribution oh mighty moderator!
Both Tunic and The Last Night look incredible. Although I must say I'm a bit worried about the gameplay aspect of the latter. Hoping for the best.
@Anti-Matter
Thank you for sharing.
Sims aren't my cup of tea personally, but I'm happy for you that you've got something to look forward to.
@darkfenrir Yeah, The Last Night is pretty interesting. I love those synth sounds, reminds me a bit of the music for Fez and Hyper Light Drifter. Both are great games by the way, and I believe the latter is coming to the Switch soon
@SleepyOtus I believe there are some bits of gameplay on YouTube here and there, but that's still pre-alpha footage. They're going to show more gameplay at E3 next month I believe!

That would be awesome. I'm definitely interested in it because of the looks, sounds and overall atmosphere. If the gameplay is great as well, we could be looking at modern classic here.
I feel like this is a pretty broad topic considering how there's maybe been less non-indie games released this year than there are already posts in this thread. : V
Here's another game I've been looking forward to for quite some time:
CrossCode
It's a Zelda-like with lots of dungeons, a huge overworld, great story, awesome characters and dialogue,... everything you want from a game like this.
It's currently slated for release on Steam but there's no release date as of now.
@kkslider5552000
Yes, it sure is a broad topic. That's why I created it in General Gaming and not on the Switch board.
Here's one for the fighting game enthusiasts: Blade Strangers
A 2D fighting game with guest indie characters from Nicalis titles such as Quote and Curly Brace from Cave Story and Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt.
It is scheduled for release this summer on Nintendo Switch and PS4.
