Steam has been hacked, any attempt to log in resulted in login into someone else's account.
Thankfully, the store's been shut down. HOWEVER If you have a PayPal account linked to your Steam account, unlink it IMMEDIATELY. EDIT: Not quite a hack, but still very serious issued Double EDIT: Turns out you weren't logging in to someone else's account, still be on guard though. Final EDIT: Seems to be over now, still check your accounts to make sure everything is the way you left it.
Steam has not been hacked. The thing that happened was that you would see other people's profiles rather than your own. It's more likely caching issues.

This was a very serious security issue, though.
Aight, changing title and OP slightly.
Edit: Regardless of what it is, do not log in to Steam.
Good thing I haven't login to Steam for a good long while… unless opening the Steam PC App to play the games counts?

It's cache issue. The store was down, but it's now online. I'm logged all day and nothing happen.
Misinformation and panic at it's finest.
You can use STEAM to play games normally, people, just don't use steam store for now. That's it. There is no hack, compromised or anything.
Well, there are Steam users (with one-click payment solutions) who got new games bought to their account that they didn't order themselves. Quite a couple of such reports on NeoGAF. So it's a security issue here that should be taken seriously, even if it isn't caused by hackers.

Explanation on what is hapenning. It is already confirmed that even though you can only see other user purchase history and e-mail, you can't do anything substantial with it and the only information about credit card you can get are last 2-4 numbers of it, so purchase on "hacked" "account" is impossible, same with paypal.
If you are afraid however, then just unlik paypal and delete credit card info, although if you're really afraid or smart, you wouldn't save it to steam in the first place. This "hack" as topic calls it is way safer than actual stealing of credit card info from steam, because it is not that well protected in the first place.
In short, you can play steam games without issue and don't have to worry about anything. If you're afraid, just stay away from steam store.
@Dave24: Well, I'm sorry. Whether or not you intended to you came came off as kind of a jerk. Still, I apologize.
I've also already reworded most of this hack business so knock it off. I'm only repeating what I know and I was initially told this was a hack. I'm in no way linked to Valve, and I'm waiting on information from them officially before I make anymore claims.
Steam DB is not officially linked to Valve btw.

Just because it isn't a hack doesn't mean you shouldn't worry about anything getting compromised, you don't know who might come across your personal info. There's reports of people's credit card's being used out of their control, as well as other personal info getting out - http://www.destructoid.com/-updates-psa-steam-is-giving-peopl...
Even if it's not a hack, it's still a big f*** up on Valve's part, and it took them a good hour to take down Steam, and it took them even longer to say anything about it, both of which are inexcusable
Valve said it doesn't believe any unauthorized actions "beyond the viewing of cached page information" happened during the window of time in which the problems occurred.
The company also made it clear that the Steam Store wasn't hacked, and credit card information and phone numbers were "censored and not visible to users, as required by law."
