Topic: Project Natal or PS3 Motion Controller?

I'll get Natal day one since it's the most innovative of both... as well as a paradigm shift... as someone said back on E3 (some Microsoft rep, can't remember who) "Natal is NOT reinventing the wheel, is no wheel at all". Not being limited by the controller and what it can do makes it depend entirely on both physics and imagination.

After spending a whole afternoon with Wii Sports Resort today I'm even more convinced of this... WMP and Sony's Wiimote ripoff are both limited to your hand, while Natal uses your whole body out of the box, a real game-changer.

And I'm with you irken004 and RandomWiiPlayer 100%.

On the price matter, I can see the rumored sub-$100 Natal price point as very reasonable... specially if they decide to bundle it with a game (they probably won't, and instead release Natal-only Xbox LIVE Arcade games for free on Xbox LIVE, Totemball anyone?), Microsoft can and will lose money on Natal if needed, the potential not only on Videogames but also on the whole NUI paradigm for computers is endless.

PS: For those that don't know, NUI stands for Natural User Interface.

I know Sony has said they will support the Motion Controller BUT its not a Main Priority for the future of the consoles future. Its will be more in the likes of their Singstar, wich has sold over a million copies so far. Sony has stated that the future of the console was with their core gamers and not casual but they wanted to expand out because of their success with Singstar, Eyetoy and Buzz Games, all of wich have showed to be extremely successful on the console. For me, I dont care for any of it. Just keep my games coming that I can use my controller with, I dont care for motion control.

The presentation on MS's E3......wow....the thing look liked a ragdoll out of control.....its so boring looking too.
I mean i want something physical and the wii does that good. say for racing games.

That doesn't sound good to be honest... first-party abandoned from the get go? look at what has happened in the past with Nintendo accessories being abandoned by Nintendo themselves hoping for 3rd party to use them....

Also sorry but Natal is a gimmick and i hope it dies out fast.

If ANY motion control is the future of video games, I quit. Standard controllers can't be beat.

Greenpeace would be happy if Natal is the future of videogames... no controller = no plastic = greener product...

although they are still mad at Microsoft and Nintendo for not showing them all their secrets lol

@DarkG.... Sony isnt abandoning the project from the beginning, they just arent changing the whole system because of a periphial, its just that a periphial. It will be aimed at the MILLIONS who are eating up EyePet, Singstar and Buzz games. Im really glad Uncharted 3, Ratchet and Clank games etc arent going to be revolved around it. Ive read in several places that alot of Microsoft faithfuls are a little confused because they feel like Microsoft is going full on into Natal and possibly not keeping what they love about Microsoft its core with the statement like "Natal is the future of Gaming" Im 27 and Ive been gaming since I was 3 (tried lol) and Im not getting up and jumping around or whatever to play games. I work really hard for a living and dont feel like all that in gaming, its my downtime. I dont see it being the future of gaming or your would see a lot more hardcore on the Wii. Twilight Princess was an INCREDIBLE 70 hrs of my life but the remote was a major chore and a LOT of gamers would have rather had a normal controller. Motion control is cool, but who really wants to play for hours on end with their arms in the air or standing up. Not me.

natal will make it out of the hangar, bu soon be bombed by terrorists 30 minutes in the flight. i dont think its going anywhere, a bunch of wii games are marked down for poor motion controls, devs will have an even harder time without a controller at all.

the ps3 wand will just have a casual collection for it. basically i think it will turn out like the wii. i dont think it will be terrible, i just dont think it will appeal to the hardcore PS3 demographic

P.S. i think i may be one of the only ones out there, but i hate virtual reality. i dont want the future to be like "put this on your head and youll go INTO the game!!" i dont know why i dont, i just dont. thats one of my reasons for not liking natal

With all this motion control crap, does anyone have a problem with the height of their ceilings? I'm not a tall guy (like 5"10"-ish), but I have some difficulty with games like EA Active (volleyball) and will probably have some issues with NATAL as well. I'll be scraping my darned hands on the ceiling, ESPECIALLY if there is jumping involved. Downstairs, I've got high celings, but upstairs they're just regular height.

Also, I can't see any motion-sensing technology completely replacing controller-based technology at this point. Things like NATAL and the Wii motion controls are pretty neat-o for certain things, but there are times when the good 'ole controllers are just as good or better.

I was bored, and against my better judgement I actually watched that video. When he speaks of Natal and First person shooters he's like, you need space and it's not going to work. And when he speaks of the wand he's all like "you can go first person shooter", suddenly you don't need all that space to move around.

I wasn't expecting an objective comparison by someone from the playstation university but comeon, are you fanboys really that stupid that you listen to people like him?

Why do you even care about something you'll probably never use/play?

space is not needed because natal needs to detect your body where the wand only needs to detect the wand, which is small. like the wii mote, but natal needs your whole body in the picture and you need space for that.

I'm just gonna pretend neither of them exist.<_< The Natal ads made me want to gag, and the last trailer I saw for the Wand looked like it had been done at the last minute. I'll wait until they've been out on the market for a while before I start looking critically at either of them.

You had me there, Mickeymac. Not to mention those casual 360 ads..... I just keep facepalming everytime I sit through it...

Actually if The Sony wand actually starts pulling off FPS right I might invest in the Wand. I wanted the Wii to do FPS great, Call of Duty 3 was really good and Reflex is supposed to be really good, but I havent played it honestly. Red Steel was a dissapointment for me. I wanted FPS on the Wii, if Sony does it right I might buy the Wand. MAYBE!

Natal's certainly an interesting technology, but I wonder if developers will come to grips with it in time to produce some good things quickly...

I hope Natal takes off - it would be a good option to have for games.

They have this life and the other, if it ends up being true that there's no integrated CPU anymore... 3D cameras with heat detection like the ones Natal has, and high quality mics don't really get any better than what Natal has... if anything the cameras will have more resolution in the future but that won't really add anything that's not already detectable... so it all comes down to the Hardware behind it... current Xbox 360 supports it, and any other Microsoft platform in the future (PC included) can support it if the software is developed for it... and besides games, there's the fact that it IS a NUI, adding more value to it...

game side, I'm more and more convinced on how awesome Milo and Fable III will be, Fable can only get better if you add Natal to the mix!
