Topic: How can i enjoy RE 1?

Posts 1 to 20 of 26

I started resident evil with resident evil 4 on wii and I fell in love with it. I wanna get more into the series. I tried to play re5 but the analog controls didn't do it for me. Then I bought re1 from a pawnshop on wii and I took it back the next day. I expected something along the lines of re4 and 5. What attitude should I play re1 (any incarnation) with in order to enjoy it? I'm thinking about getting re:ds. How can I enjoy it after being so spoiled by re4?

1) Put game in disc/ cartridge slot
2) Start playing game
3) If you enjoy said game, profit.
4) If you don't, sad panda.

... I'm not sure what else to suggest, since I don't know if you're 18 (21 in America) and if you're underage I'm not going to recommend you play a game drunk. That would be irresponsible of me.

Mind you, playing games drunk makes them ALL better.

If RE4 is your first game, you don't have to expect anything familiar.

Word of note: this is a 2001 survival horror game. Don't expect a lot killing; be patient; I hope you like puzzles; this game should freak you out.

Another big thing: this game is controlled from a 3rd person view, meaning you merely see the character you're controlling at fixed angles throughout the game. That is supposedly the only difference in controls.

Overall, this game is slower paced. I hope you enjoy the game because REmake is how Resident Evil started out (actually, it's the original Resident Evil for PSX, but you have the GC version).

@waltz I hate playing games drunk. And I quit drinking.

I started a file on the REmake so I know what it's like, but it was just such a far cry from what I had experienced in res evil games

let me add more...

Enjoy the environment. This game packs some dark art direction: the environment is rendered nearly photo realistically, and the music give an unrelenting uncertainty among you as you progress.

USE A GAMECUBE CONTROLLER IF YOU CAN. This game was made for the Gamecube, and I just preferred the controller. If not, make sure you have a nunchuck.

Resident Evil 1 is significantly different from RE4. Problem solving is a bit important in this game; they aren't too hard, but it's more than RE4. The emphasis is not killing as much enemies as you can; it's making sure you're safe and that you make it out alive.

PS: You have to find Ink Ribbons in order to save the games.

What? Don't encourage drinking when playing video games!

The REmake is the best RE game ... you have to embrace the tank controls and the feeling of frustration they bring. The game wouldn't work with an RE4 control scheme because it kills the feeling of not having control that is integral to the experience. You're not supposed to feel in control, you're supposed to feel like you could die every time you turn the corner.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

I can't play games drunk. I die over and over again doing the simplest things while squinting at the screen desperate to figure out just what is going on. Same story playing games with that one other thing which I probably shouldn't mention.

You could also get the wii games to get the basic stories of the first few games covered.

Though seriously if you can't enjoy simple things like gaming unless drunk, I'd recommend visiting a help group.
