Weird... they must think this is going to be a big, important thing to invest in... :/

nope Facebook is buying things left and right lately as if the comapany's money was endless

Good then hopefully this will drive them to bankruptcy and then we will be rid of Facebook.

Shhh!!! Don't let all the dude bros and preppy chicks that I had the "fortunate" opportunity to go to high school with hear you!!!

But like @shingi_70 said, Twitter or Google+ would more than likely take its place...

I have to agree with Markus Persson. I don't like this idea of Facebook purchasing Oculus.

I've been seeing this literally everywhere I go online. I don't see why everyone is so concerned. But I guess that's 'cause I never had interest in the Oculus in the first place. Shame about canceling the mine craft thing tho.
Japan's apparently using it to put you in animes though. Or Sony's version of this anyways.

why is everyone so upset that Facebook bought Oculus? i'm honestly confused. if they just want the VR for video games, then Morpheus is coming out soon. applying VR for something like social activities could be really cool, so i don't see the problem. imagine for example if VR technology were applied to something like Skype or other video-calling services! seriously revolutionary as opposed to stupid video game gimmicks. so i ask, what's the problem?

I agree. People are only looking at the video game aspect of this.

Sony has already had a few headsets, actually. They made a 720p 3D 100 and something inch projector screen within a reasonably small enclosure. All it lacked was motion control, but it was essentially the same thing. I think PS4 having VR is pretty cool, but I don't think people are realizing that this could have been accessible a while ago. Not only that, but 3D stereoscopic video and images aren't widely accepted, and 3DS gets criticised for 3D, all the time.

Bundle that all together, and there's a noticeable lack of insight and open minded-ness that is only now being pushed aside. We'll just have to see how it goes.

Meh, not interested in Oculus at all. While I know the tech has improved drastically, whenever I think of VR and VR headsets, all I think of is playing Dactyl Nightmare almost 20 years ago, lol.

Wake me up when they invent the Holodeck.

i think that anyone who thinks oculus should only be used for video games is just selfish. VR is capable of bigger and better things than just video games. i know this is beyond Facebook, but VR is already being used for simulators to train surgeons, soldiers, astronauts, etc. VR can still be taken further i believe, so if you think video games are a much better way to spend VR on, i think you're just selfish.
