And will it ever happen? Nintendo games are perfect for achievements, they could’ve have like complete the Pokédex on Pokemon or win x amount of races in Mario ksrt
Maybe we'll see something similar to trophies or achievements when Nintendo introduces their next platform after the Switch runs its course? But if we haven't gotten them by now, here in year four, it isn't happening for the rest of the Switch's lifespan.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

Surely it's better to have achievements implemented within games themselves, so they can actually have an effect on the game like unlockables or whatever? Or just the sorts of daft achievements that Timesplitters series featured.
If they're tied to the console itself (or your account on the console) then I struggle to see what they actually add.
@DevlinMandrake I mean both are good, even better if it’s a shared achievement system. I play PS4 sometimes and if I enjoy a game a lot I will go for the platinum, it gives me some incentive to want to carry on playing after a first playthrough. I mean Xbox, PlayStation, Steam all has them so why not Switch?
@Magician One would think so but I remember Sony brought trophies to the PS3 like 2-3 years or so after it’s launch, I do agree it’s very unlikely though. It’s a shame because the Nintendo exclusive games would be really fun games to get 100% achievements for!
@ThanosReXXX Yeah I agree, games don’t NEED achievements, just like games didn’t NEED to have online or NEED to be in HD, it’s surely a lot more fun with them though right? Sarcasm is also very difficult to pick up through text, I’m sure I’ll pick up the Nintendo gamers humour in no time though!
The problem I have with achievements is that developers use them as a way to inflate game time. I have played games where devs claim oh there is over a hundred hours of game time in this game only to go play the game and beat the story in less then 20 hours, the other 80 hours is just doing stupid stuff that has no meaning for the storyline.
Now I am not against achievements I do enjoy them when they are connected to the story or game itself.

@NNGaming900 Yeah, if you stick around long enough, you'll recognize it alright, if you pay attention, seeing as not all of us use smileys or spoilers to indicate it.
The thing with achievements/trophies is that, contrary to NATURAL evolutions in games, like online play or improved graphics, they do at times feel FAR more bolted on, and added just for the sake of doing a lot of backtracking or side-questing that really isn't necessary and/or an essential part of the game itself.
This picture is obviously "slightly" over-exaggerated, but it IS a good example of how idiotic it can get sometimes, ever since games started adding achievements for just about every little thing in a game:
Back in the day, most people were okay with not having found all 100 coins in Super Mario, and those that weren't played it again to find all of them, but we didn't need an artificial tracker or achievement counter to make us aware of that or give us an incentive to do that, because it was already incorporated into the game in a natural way, as were ALL "achievements" in the games back then.
Reaching or improving a high score, or finishing the game with lives left already WAS the achievement. Or simply replaying a game on a higher difficulty setting and so on. No more was and is needed. That's what the others meant with their comments, much like I'm also saying.
@ThanosReXXX I don’t see how achievements aren’t natural evolution in game systems, it has been the norm on all other platforms for a very long time, it can give more reasons for multiple playthroughs as well as having things in the game to work towards. Same thing with voice chat and party chat, that is also a NATURAL evolution in gaming. Just like achievements, not everyone would care for it, but they should include it for those that do, everyone is a winner! I’m sure that even if back in the day people DIDN’T want 100 coins in super Mario or 120 stars in Mario 64, but there will also be people that DO want to go for the full completion of games, so why not include an achievement system?
Yeah, unfortunately, we don't actually speak for Nintendo, @NNGaming900 .... There's nothing anyone here can do about them introducing 'achievements' If you're that bothered about it, talk to them directly?
