@GeeEmm Yeah, I just saw this on the eShop last night. The images look fantastic.
The digital edition on the eShop for $60 has everything the physical Starter Pack has, just no physical toys.
Actually, I just checked Ubi's FAQ page on the game, and it seems like the digital edition gets more stuff included. So that's nice. https://starlink.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/faq

@toiletduck You've got several options, all of which let you beat the game with no additional purchases:
Digital Version - 60$, has 5 starships, 7 pilots and 12 weapons without buying any toys. You can either get the remaining content digitally (price TBD) or buy the toys, or just play without the missing content
Digital Deluxe - 80$ has everything - 6 starships, 10 pilots, and 15 weapons. No toys needed at all.
Physical Starter Pack - 75$ - Has the game, the Controller Mount, the Arwing toy, Fox McCloud Pilot and Mason Rana Pilot figures, the Shredder, Flamethrower and Frost Barrage Weapon toys and Digital versions of Zenith Starship and Shredder weapons.
Digital Collection: For 60$, you can get all the digital content missing from the physical pack.
@link3710 thanks. I'm definitely not going to play something like this with toys in my house, but I might be interested to play without the toys if the game is cool. I'll wait a bit but I'll definitely keep it on my radar!
Grabbed the Deluxe digital version. For $80 (with 10% off due to buying eShop cards during the Paypal Gift $50 for $45 deal) and an additional 5% back via gold coins, the actual game with like $65 of additional packs only cost $67.99, without the need for toys (although I'm getting the physical version with Arwing).
Run that. Run that aaaaall day.

I'm not sure if this is possible but the way I'd want to play Starlink is get the physical starter bundle for the Fox + Arwing toys and the physical cartridge but to be able to play the whole game with the pro controller and handheld mode rather than the special Joy-Con grip and the toys.
@Grumblevolcano It is in fact possible. Everything that comes in the physical bundle is permanantly unlocked digitally. Anything additional can be unlocked for up to a week at a time by scanning the toys, or you can buy it digitally, or play without it.
Is it wrong that I'm tempted to buy a full price digital game when I'm already getting physical 20% off? Feels like a game that needs to be digital for some reason.... it doesn't seem as much like a "drop in and play it every day for 2 months" like Xenoblade.
@link3710 " It is in fact possible. Everything that comes in the physical bundle is permanantly unlocked digitally. Anything additional can be unlocked for up to a week at a time by scanning the toys, or you can buy it digitally, or play without it."
The fact that this paragraph exists at all is just so, so, so wrong.
@NEStalgia And this is why I'm just buying the digital version and keeping far away from all the toys to life stuff. I'm hoping the base game sells well and the toys flop, then we can get a sequel without the Toys to Life aspect.
@link3710 I don't think much "hope" is required for the toys part Who buys T2L in 2018? The Starfox kit will be sold out everywhere though. A model Arwing doesn't happen every day....
Yeah I'm thinking of getting the switch starter kit when it's half off on black Friday then just getting the digital "filler" bundle. Watched some coop gameplay last night with the kids and game looks like it's really fun and well made. Looking forward to the reviews
@NEStalgia Yeah, I'd have easily paid $30 for just the Arwing alone, Star Fox merchandise like that doesn't happen every day. Toys are definitely failing though, they're including a pilot for free with existing preorders now at Best Buy. Just hoping this doesn't make Ubisoft give up on the IP entirely, because this is the most excited I've been for a new IP since Splatoon/Wonderful 101.
I've always made fun of the games that needs a spreadsheet explaining how to buy the game, but this one is all over the place too, physical editions, digital editions, with toys, without toys, deluxe editions, exclusive content for one system, mandatory download. I'm zoned out after reading all of that, and then you realise it's a Ubisoft game, so half the price with everything included in a complete edition a few months from now!
@NEStalgia Rayman Legends, Mario & Rabbids and Child of Light exist. I do think this is the first open 3D Ubisoft game that I thought looks well made since the Prince of Persia remake in '09 that I beat without encountering a single glitch, but it missed out on the fun part so...
@link3710 True, CoL was their side initiative studio without much complexity. Rabbids had Miyamoto watching them like a hawk. Which probably explains Starlink too....no way Nintendo's licensing one of their A-franchises without sending the ninjas to oversee the quality
Rayman is great and I used to have faith in Michael Ancel's rock solid output, but the more I see of BG&E2 the less faith I have in him And no, I would not like to "join his space monkey program"
@Magician I believe the toys are optional for the game unless I'm not taking something into account here.
Nope, you're correct, the toys are optional. But as a physical collector it's an all-or-nothing affair for me. I would like to support the game (since it looks like great fun) and Ubisoft (one of the few third party publishers supporting Nintendo through the dark times). However, the ugly "required download" banner has really turned me off the game.
So if it reviews well I'll wait until the digital version receives a steep discount, $30 or less.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)
