Topic: Righting Wii U's wrongs by SWITCHing it up...

So,

Rumors are swirling that there are Director's Cut versions of Wii U's better games being worked on. We've seen footage of what looks likely to be Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon's versions of these. We have also heard lots of rumors that Smash is, if not a launch version of this, possibly launch window. Sprinkle in the rumors of Tantalus working on NS games, and it all seems to be being spelled out for us.

These 3 games will satisfy the "Great games that undersold strictly because they were released on failed hardware" list. These are the very good Wii U games that were given the same amount of polish as all Nintendo games are always given. The OTHER category of games that this can contribute to is much more interesting to me. It is the "rush out these games at the very minimum level of acceptability so people who own a Wii U will have SOMETHING to play while we put the real work into the Switch games".

This is so enticing to me because this practice was so unlike Nintendo, but they didn't have much of a choice. They had to put most of their work into their next console and they also HAD to be putting SOME kind of content on the Wii U. But now, they can right their wrongs and re-release these games as they should have been released in the first place. instead of having to make brand new games, Nintendo simply can use the base game and add features and polish on , greatly reducing development time while rounding out the year 1 and 2 Switch lineup.

So, my question is, what games best fit this category, and what about them do you feel should be "fixed"?

1 Star Fox Zero

While this game may not fit the "rushed" qualifier listed above(I'm not sure if it was or wasn't, either way), it certainly is an opportunity for Nintendo to fix the 2 main things people generally hated about this title: The controls and adding on a multiplayer mode. Not everyone had issues with the controls. Some felt they were actually good once you got used to them, so leave them in as an option and then create a "traditional" control scheme option. A few months of so for a dogfighting multiplayer mode, possibly online, and BOOM, this game is ready to go out the door as a new game to many.

2 Mario Tennis: Ultra Sm... Switch

This game is the pure definition of "rushed". As bare bones as can be. It'll probably take a good deal of time to develop even with what is already there, but using the base game engine will of course save a good deal of time and for a system that tends to be sorely lacking in sports experiences, these kinds of titles are always valuable and welcome. This one could possibly be so different that it could simply be labeled as the full next entry in the series if they put enough extra content into it.

Pikmin 3 could possibly be made much better (even though it wasn't rushed in the first place) for 2 reasons: 1- It was developed in that period where NIntendo was JUST getting the hang of HD, so they could probably make it even more beautiful now that they know what they are doing, and 2- Taking out all the gamepad stuff and replacing it with more traditional control schemes would change things up enough to feel new and interesting. However, if Pikmin 4 is indeed a new, real Pikmin for the Switch and not the 3DS abomination, then forget this entry.

What other ideas do you have for the Switch to upgrade Wii U games that were lacking?

Nothing can save Star Fox Zero..

@LetsGoRetro Pikmin 3 had options for traditional controls; It actually supported a great variety of controls; from the touch controls, to motion controls and the traditional Pro Controller.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll get a star fox re release. I think miyamoto would rather it just go down as niche than admit the controls being non optional was a mistake. Though it'd be great.

I also hope pikmin 4 is a regular styled entry rather than the 3DS game. We're not 100% sure it's not what miyamoto was referring to yet, I believe

I was given the impression that it's not pikmin 4 but a spinoff

@Octane

I wasn't aware of that. Seems a port may be very easy then, although I would much rather prefer Pikmin 4 just be the next mainline entry on Switch.

@TheLZdragon

The 3DS game appears to be a spinoff, but as per usual at NIntendo, nobody has confirmed anything yet. Hopefully we see an awesome, beautiful mainline Pikmin 4 on Switch @ the July 12th, 2017 reveal show.

@Operative

I fear you may be right. Seems to be a shame, as Starfox 64 was awesome, and Zero looks like it could be an updated version of it. Although, I don't really care about remakes, so since it's essentially a Starfox 64 remake, honestly I've been there, done that and have new things to play.

@TheLZdragon I don't think the question is if it's a spinoff. It's definitely not supposed to be treated as a mainline pikmin game. What people are wondering is if the pikmin game miyamoto referred to as "Being nearly finished" a year ago was referring to the 3DS game or an actual mainline entry. Unfortunately, we don't know for sure yet

@Operative

It's worth noting that Miyamoto didn't just say "a pikmin game" was almost done, he specifically said "Pikmin 4" was almost done...

TuVictus

@LetsGoRetro Did he? I thought it was said "fourth pikmin game", but I may just remember wrong. If not, then awesome

I stand happily corrected then!

The 3DS Pikmin game could have been called Pikmin 4 during development. Hopefully that wasn't what he was referring to but it could have been.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@Octane Neither do I, just throwing out the possibility.

Considering Pikmin 3 supported the Wiimote and nun-chuck setup and how brilliantly that worked, the idea that it needed a "more traditional control scheme" is absurd to me.

And this isn't even a Star Fox Zero thing. I think basically everyone agrees Wiimote Nunchuck Pikmin is great.

I personally did not lik the Wiimotes for anything, Pikmin included. I really enjoyed the Wii, but with the pro controller at any opportunity I could. 2 little sticks, or even more so 1 stick, just never felt right to me. I haven't played NIntendo multiplayer games in 10 years with friends. They wouldn't play Wii because they despised the controllers and they wouldn't play Wii U because it pretty much sucked in all areas. These are all friends that I had a blast with on NES through Gamecube. I will never forget the night that my typical Mario Party group (these 3 friends and I consider Mario Party 1-7 some of the funnest games of all time, and have literally put thousands of hours into them combined) all stood up and said "We're going to go" after playing for like 20 minutes. Turns out when I went to the bathroom everyone had a discussion that they couldn't enjoy the game with these controllers. None of them ever touched the Wii again. I really hope Switch just goes back to the roots of gaming.

Any sequel to minecraft will be exclusive to Xbox for at least a while. But a port of minecraft might shift units.

I for sure would be able to justify buying an entire system solely for Minecraft. It's just so easy to waste time with and to be able play it on the go as well, crikey. That would be great.
It's worth questioning whether it would be a port of Minecraft PE or the actual full Minecraft.

What's minecraft PE, sorry for the silly question.

TuVictus

Minecraft made for phones and tablets and all those smart devices. PE stands for pocket edition
