@Joeynator3000 I mean we have Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on GBA, but I would love to see a brand new one or at least a remake of one of the originals.
@Joeynator3000 Yeah I'd definitely prefer a remake over an NSO port as well. But perhaps it's better than nothing. Nintendo will likely have to find a new team since AlphaDream seems like it's gone, but hopefully that is possible!
@Papasears1982 Yeah we'll probably have to wait for the next console for Luigi's Mansion 4 and the next Mario Kart, and probably the next Paper Mario as well.
@Uncle_Franklin I wonder if speedrunners will create a speedrun category for new TTYD called 'GameCube%' where they have to get the GameCube badge and use it as quickly as possible.
I still have the original Paper Mario Thousand Year Door game for my Gamecube, so I'm good and fine with that. I can play it any time whenever I want to.
@XandertheWise Cool! I mean the Switch version has stuff that wasn't in the original like new soundtrack (including brand new character themes and battle versions among other new songs), concept art gallery, music player, portability, new graphics, better fast-travel/blue pipe system, easier way to select partner, and that's what we know so far.
I love the original, but will also be getting the Switch one! It has a lot of upgrades from the original, and having the game being portable is nice as well. More accessible to play it on Switch, especially with all of the upgrades. I'd say it's worth getting again, but that's ultimately up to you.
We're less than 2 weeks from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door's Switch release.
If you haven't played the original before, which part of the game are you looking forward to the most? (e.g. Battling, a specific place in the game, characters, music, graphics, etc)
If you have played the original before, what new feature are you looking forward to the most? (e.g. Concept art, remixed soundtrack, Music gallery, brand new music, new graphics, Blue Pipe Room, Battle Master, improved hint/tattle system, quick partner switch, etc.)
Very excited. I think I have more fun with Paper Mario/RPG Mario than any other Mario sub genre including main line platformers. Probably a Nintendo sin (Sintendo?) to say that, but that is how they are for me!
@Mana_Knight Yeah I enjoy classic Paper Mario more than most Mario/Nintendo games. Other people have different tastes, but I agree that I like some of the Mario RPGS more than some of the mainline games
It's definitely the updated soundtrack. For the 2nd time in a year, a Mario RPG with one of Nintendo's best soundtracks gets redone, and I am thrilled. I assume like SMRPG, I will love it but also feel a bit nitpicky because I love the original so much and I don't think adding real instruments is an automatic improvement for all music like some people do. Though with far more music I think there's definitely more room for improvement.
And to showcase how much I love TTYD's soundtrack, that game came out before you could easily find and download video game music. So it took me like a year to find all the music in one place, and even then certain songs were recorded with sound effects still there because it was recorded directly from playing the game (which was hilarious because, for example, they recorded Petal Meadows with the sound of water even though that song plays in places without the sound of water :V). And I downloaded that to an actual Mp3 player, a thing that I'm not sure even exists anymore.
@kkslider5552000 The original TTYD's OST still holds up really well. The new one--from what we've heard --is definitely living up to the original (at least in my opinion). I'm sure with some songs I'll prefer the original, and other songs I'll prefer the new version.
I agree that adding real instruments doesn't necessarily make it better. With some songs it can end up being better, but that's not always true.
I might have to agree with you--The music excites me so much. We're getting a fully new version of the OST. Not only that, but there's also completely new songs in the OST. We'll also be able to choose the original soundtrack. (I love this feature so I can listen to both, will especially be nice on repeat playthroughs). Not to mention there is a very nice music player option. All of this together is just so good. Can't wait!
I'm also super looking forward to the art gallery. Looking at concept art or whatever is just very cool, I'm definitely excited for that as well!

I'd say the redone/new music. A lot of the music from Nintendo games are just fantastic, and I love the official remixes found in later games too. (This might be an unpopular opinion, but I like the All-Stars version of the Super Mario Bros. theme more than the NES original!) So I'm excited to hear what TTYD's music will sound like in the Switch version.
@MarioVillager92 The music is so exciting! One of the most hype parts for me as well.
Honestly I do like the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros., music wise. I haven't heard it in a while, but I might even say it's better than the original OST. I like both, they're good in their own ways.
I just listened to some of it again and I'd probably say I like it better overall over the original. I tend to really enjoy SNES OSTs (Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Diddy's Kong Quest, Kirby SuperStar/Fun Pak), and this one fits similar vibes in some ways, so I'm a pretty big fan.

I totally agree with you. I really felt this years ago with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. Ruby/Sapphire held such strong nostalgia for me that rearranging those classic songs with quieter but more realistic sounding flutes and brass just didn't sound the same to me. The flutes sounded quieter, the trumpets not as triumphant, etc etc.
It's really hard to rearrange a song without changing the way each "voice" in the arrangement expresses itself. Sound editing becomes really important in this respect.
@Ulysses Yeah it is very precise doing justice when remaking a soundtrack. It is very easy to mess some stuff up. Not that the new ones would necessarily be bad, just doesn't capture the same vibe/aren't as good as the original.
With Super Mario RPG, I listened to the OG soundtrack way more than the new one when playing the Switch version. I love the new remixes and all, and I think they are very good versions of the original songs, I just simply prefer the original.
I bet I'll love a lot of the new arrangements in TTYD, however I am very glad I'll have the option to listen to the original. It's just useful because everyone has different preferences, so having both OSTs as an option is very welcome. I'll likely play through it multiple times, so I'll likely be using both soundtracks.
In SMRPG the one I really noticed was the Midas river. Technically, the correct instruments but changed the vibe of the song (not even because of the new section, just talking about the one-to-one song remake). It's still like a very good piece of music but definitely doesn't hit like the original.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Mushroom Kingdom, a song that feels like it was meant to use real instruments and was a huge improvement imo.
@PikminMarioKirby Yeah I like both the NES and Super Mario All-Stars versions of the Super Mario Bros. music as well. That also goes for SMB2 and 3... the entire trilogy! I'm more nostalgic for the All-Stars versions though. I love a lot of SNES tunes in general actually, including the ones you've mentioned. The SNES has awesome games in general, actually... plus I might be slightly biased towards the SNES since it was the first console I've played, lol.
