Topic: Nintendo dock is scratching/smearing the back of the console as well.

After a month of use I've just noticed some vertical scratching and smearing on the back of the device. These marks line up and are located in the same position as the rubbers inside the dock.

Not easily noticeable but held at the right angle they are visible. Not overly concerned with the current amount of damage but left unattended this could develop in time..

I'm posting this so that those of you, who like me, like to keep their equipment scratch free can look at a solution before it begins on yours....

Now that you mention it, I have a few scratches on the back of mine as well, though the front of mine is scratch free, probably partly due to the fact that I put a screen protector on it the moment it came out of the box. I highly doubt the scratches on the back would ever get bad enough to make the system stop working or even be that noticeable at all, considering I can only see them in certain lighting and only noticed them just now, but it is disappointing that the dock does this.

I don't think my dock is faulty or anything. It looks fine to me. Who knows, though.

Mine is also scratch free on the front due to same reason as yours...day one screen protector.

Nobody in their right mind would think scratches on the back of the unit could ever prevent the console from working?

It's only been 1 month so only time will tell....common sense says it will deteriorate further.

My Dock like all docks is faulty by design, unless you consider a self scratching device normal.

Not a single scratch here, front or back.

@skadollax I know, I just wasn't sure if you meant you weren't overly concerned about the damage it's accumulated yet in terms of how the system looks aesthetically or that it might have an effect on how the system functions over time.

Idk, I've got a tempered glass screen protector on... no scratches on screen. I'm checking my Switch right now....

Hmm... actually the back isn't scuffed at all. I was half expecting it to be. I figure that's just the price you pay for having a system that can dock and transition between console and handheld... but it's actually just as pristine as when I bought it.

Well, that doesn't mean it won't happen in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. But my 3DS got some scuffs on it through normal use and really, I don't think I would care too much if the back cover ended up with a few scuff marks over the years. I'd prefer if it didn't but... if it happens it happens. So far so good though. I am pretty careful when I dock my system- not overly careful to the point I'm treating it like a delicate feather but careful enough to slowly slide it in while centered

Many claiming scratch free screens are left dissapointed when the marks on their screen, thought to be finger prints at first, are actually permanent smears left on the screen from inserting and removing the console from its dock. All of the consoles I've looked at have them shortly after use in the dock.

The latest find on the back gives people the opportunity to protect that area if they so choose.

Keep in mind, people using screen protectors, especially tempered glass will be more prone to scratching on the back of their consoles. This is due in part to the thickness of the screen protectors 1-3mm which causes the device to sit/slide in tighter than it should, hence placing pressure on the back while the front is protected.

Nintendo need a better solution than the current one....or they at least need to get rid of their patent on the dock, so other manufacturers can begin to release other/better options.
